Does anyone know of a chocolate stout kit. New to this home brew lark - on brew number six - so would prefer a kit or some advice on how to "tweak" an existing kit if anyone has had any successes!

thanks

this is a very nice a coffe choc stout kit if you up to all grain brewing

here
otherwise try a coopers stout thats got a decent taste

I would purchase a small amount of chocolate malt.
Steep this in hot water to extract the fermentables, boil it to sterilise it and then add it back to the wort you have produced from the kit. Then just ferment out the wort as per the kit instructions.
You may have to play around a wee bit with the amount of chocolate malt you use to get your desired flavour profile.

I think I also read a post somewhere about someone adding a cup of strong coffee to the wort prior to fermentaion - check that one a bit further though as I am not 100% on that.

Hi mikeyzaz,
I'm on the verge of experimenting with a coopers kit (hopefully the last kit I'll make) in a few weeks - I was planning on 85% dark chocolate (200g)/cocoa powder, 1kg extra dark DSM with about 5 saccharine tablets.Alternative to this is adding cocoa powder 200g with lactose (240g) also with cocoa essence added in before bottling (to give aroma).

This should give a double chocolate type feel.....but I could be very wrong....but Ill give it a go. :drink:

Thanks all. I think I will look at both options. I have read that Youngs use a chocolate essence additive after brewing - what a shame! I'll let you know the results......
