Check your Hydrometers...

Always struggled to hit FG bang on and always a 2 - 6 points or so high. I always check FG via a floating hydrometer and like many I got a cheap one off eBay, of the type that most people seem to have whenever they post a pick. I checked it in Distilled water and low and behold its reading 1.004. Factoring this into previous batches and that pulls me pretty much bob onto FG or maybe a point or so off - so close enough. I guess it always makes sense to check all your measurement equipment, but I assumed it was pretty good out of the box but doesn't seem to be so.

tiny air bubbles stuck to it are a pain to spot and can throw off your reading quite a bit
