I'm probably mad but:

Maybe it's because I left a bit of room in the DJ, maybe the froth collapses sooner if its closer to the top, maybe my mind has gone? I thought 2 inches from the top can't be right.. That'll teach me to follow the recipe next time

It frothed at first for a day then dissipated and went froth free, then boom! Pink airlock! Not a big monster froth but a constant one, there isn't any point changing the airlock yet as it would keep happening..

:hmm:

I've never had any problem with the fruit and barley frothing up and leave very little room in my demijohn I would say about 2 inches from the top of the bottle where the body of the Demi starts becoming the neck.

I think when I try tried the ordinary robinsons orange and mango it frothed a bit out of the bottle but only a tiny bit and that brew wasn't as nice as the fruit and barley
Oh rats. :(

When you said 2 inches from the top I thought you meant where the bottle meets the neck, so mine is at the shoulder of the DJ.

Never mind, it'll just be a bit stronger ;)

(Must remember to put warning labels on the bottles..)

I think I have confused myself and everyone..
With my poor grammar

Two inches from the very top of the DJ.

Hahaha anyway

How much water do u put in ur airlock I have noticed if u just have enough to make an airtight seal then gass can escape and is not built up in the froth before its released,

But on the flipside u could say that alot of liquid in airlock means that the pressure has to build up and gives the froth a chance to die Down before releasing the first bubbles

Like I said I never have this problem unless using real fruit juice!

No probs S2N, :) if it wasn't for you I would never have tried this!

I love the experimental nature of all of this.

I'll let you know if it starts the party off with a swing! :D

Well I had a bit of an issue earlier, checked my peach version of this an it seemed to have died

No bubbles or anything

I think it might be because I never simmered for long enough at the start, maybe preservatives catching up

Just set tropical and a vim to going. Bubbling away within the hour.

Pleased I joined now. Smelt awesome while boiling. Hope the end result is as good.

Thanks so much for the recipe - it is my very first homebrew! My kitchen smells yummy - have used the Summer Fruits and also going to try the Pink Grapefruit for something a bit different.

Cheers,

RP :)

Couldnt wait any longer and tried a bottle of peach today. It has only had a week so there was not much fizz, but it was very pleasent none the less. Will have to keep my eye on these. The good lady likes this a lot!

Well have recently made two dj of Morrison's own grapefruit barley an apples an pear an omg they are to die for even still in DJ

Grapefruit is so good named it "Granny Grapefruit" after my gran lol

Dunno what I have done to mine did peach a few days ago seemed to stop entirely so decided to check it took the lid off this morning and get a strong peach smell but then a horrific after smell, didn't dare do a taste. Gave it a bit of a shake and put airlock back on its now bubbling slowly (very slowly), little worried bout this one..

I've just made 5 gallons of the summer fruits one. I really need to get some smaller fermenters

My summer fruits one has stopped bubbling so I racked it to another 5ltr PET and had a taste; to be honest, it was a bit bland and I didn't get much flavour. Maybe I have diluted it a bit too much :? Would it be worth buying another bottle of Robinsons and just putting in some extra to flavour it up again? Had a nice alcoholic hit but just lacked the summer fruits taste.

Any advice welcomed

I haven't done the summer fruits one
Did u use normal of the fruit and barley version?

Yes you can add more cordial providing u boil it and let it cool and remember that it does has sugar in so let it ferment out before priming else u will get too fizzy

You can prime with the cordial be I haven't really looked into the quantities as never found them to be too watery!

Please tell us what u decide to do and how it goes as u might help other ppl :)

I recently made this with Morrison's fruit barley an omg it is so sweet but I'm happy to drink it

Treating myself to some pink grapefruit lol

My friend works for carling and says his misses
Loves the new pink grapefruit lager, I can't imagine it

How does it taste? It looks a pretty bonnie pint!

If I am honest it is a touch sweet I would rather more a tang but it is going down very nice if anything too nice lol

I used the No Sugar Barley one - I will try what you suggested and boil some cordial and add it when cooled. The pink grapefruit one I put on a day later tasted delicious and is still quite sweet - think I must have just over-diluted the Summer Fruits; will know for next time though. Will let you know how it turns out in due course :)

When I make the grapefruit one again might use 3/4 instead of full bottle
