Central heating bug8ered, how will it affect my brew?

I put on two brews 5 days ago, and since then our central heating has gone **** up, leaving the house at about 13 deg C.

Brew one is a coopers stout, plus 1kg dry malt, 500g brew enhancer and a tin of black treacle.

Brew two is a Brewmaker IPA with a 20g/60min golding hop tea, plus 1.8 kg liquid malt, 500g brew enhancer and a jar of honey, plus today 10g dry goldings.

The initial three days or so of ferm were at 18 degrees-ish.

How will this affect the brews as the heating system needs a power flush to get it working properly and we can't get our plumber to do that until 12th Dec.......so the house will be a bit chilly until then.

it won't hurt too much , but it also won't finish and will take much longer , you can try wrapping the brews up in some blankets but that prob won't be enough . If your stuck and wish to get on with it you could get a storage container (70l ish, £8 ) and an aquarium heater and pop the heater in container with some water and pop your fv into container too . That's what i do and i have a cold house , brews turn out great .

What yeast are you using? we brew at whatever ambient temp the garage is (since it is steady and wont fluctuate much) this time of year using nottingham yeast our beers ferment dry down to 10c ambient. As the poster above mentioned, other yeasts will stall fermentation, so its worth doing a little research based on your strain to see what behaviour you might expect.

Also, 5 days into fermentation might actually have finished, and the cooler temp may help your yeast settle out. take a gravity reading and see.

I used Coopers own yeast in the Stout, and the Brewmaker one was labelled RBD or something.

The heating is partially fixed so the FVs are now upstairs in the warm. :)
