Thanks for that DD2

Having read it i can see the points from both sides, labour said its a mess and rushed notice they didn't say its wrong,

The protesters go on about their human rights what about the rights of people to go about their daily lives without being disrupted by these people as i said if they want to protest fine but there is no need for their protests to get in the way of people who have no interest in what they are protesting about, as it says below -

This is designed to stop people occupying public spaces, hanging off bridges, gluing themselves to windows,

Means diddly squat to me, i will be up in the hills enjoying life or on a mates yatch sailing the coast for a few days, it's a wonderful life free of distractions more folks should try it, it frees your mind up acheers.

Until something changes that affects you directly, and you find that you no longer have any right to protest.

The entire point of a protest is to disrupt. All the rights we have today weren't gained from writing strongly worded letters. We give them up at our peril.

Nothing will change my life to the extent i need to protest, and if it does i will protest peacefully i will not be sat in a bathtub on London bridge or clueing myself to the roof of a train o no i will take stock of the situation sit back with a home brew a salmon and cucumber sandwich while i watch the world go by, :beer1:

I have no issue with protesters gathering on mass in streets, squares etc to get maximum publicity but i do however draw the line at insides of buildings where people work and live in my view that doesn't help their cause neither does rioting and looting as we saw in the London protests.

I agree about disruption it always makes me laugh when the airport staff threaten to strike in summer and all the people going on holiday call them all the ***** under the sun for choosing the week they are traveling to go on strike, you couldn't make it up.

This law can stop you from doing just that. All well and good saying there is nothing could change you life that would outrage you enough to protest over it. If they came for your beer or your motorbike you may have something to say about it.

There are already laws to address the above. This bill is nothing more than a power grab. The police can decide what is unacceptable, what is too loud, where isn't appropriate. You want to stand in a town centre with a placard supporting a local cause, you'll have to ask for permission, give them advanced notice of time and predicted size of protest, and then wait for permission. They can **** off with that. It'll be defeated, and rightly so.

It links to "A mammoth piece of legislation" in the article you linked to, i assume we don't know the full details so we can but guess how it'll turn out.

If they come for my beer or bike they will die :laugh8: acheers. DD i think we need to raise a glass and leave this now athumb..acheers. one thing i do believe in is free speech and will fight to the death to defend that, i was going to have a beer but they nicked it cheers :beer1:

The bill they are protesting about is full of stupid things - like right to protest and possibly higher sentences for damaging a statue - up to 10 years. Most sentences for rape are around 5 years and lots of woman wanted sentences to go higher and to be included in the bill. A twitter post I really like:
statutes killed: 1
woman killed this year: 180

Going back to protesting, if that bill passes protesters will be remoted from the front of Westminster , if they are found annoying or to loud - I guess anti Brexit guy would be first to go.

I think people feel desperate as they see this power grab and safety covid measures went through the window.
I don't this it will lead to a massive spread, there is much higher chance for this in schools currently - I know, I work in one

The maximum sentence for rape isn't 5 years.

A lot of the sentences will actually be less than they currently are. A lot of the stuff are complaining about are covered under common law, there is no maximum sentence under common law

There seems to be no such thing as a peaceful protest anymore. They all seem to become infiltrated by the same bunch of mindless morons, intent on violence, destruction and looting.

Some form of legislation that can prevent such scenes, at least for the remainder of the Covid restrictions does seem like common sense.
