I'm thinking of moving onto carboys instead of fermenting buckets. Can anyone answer some questions?

- with the small access space, how do you dry hop with hop socks?

- how do you safely take samples during fermentation?

- any cleaning tips?

And a separate bottling question -

If I have 2 different brews fermenting at the same time, can I bottle them, one after the other, using the same bottling bucket, without any unwanted consequences? Just a rinse in between?

Cheers,

Re.your first question, hop sock on a string. People do this for normal FVs too.

Two questions I wish I'd asked before buying one:

Will it fit in the brew fridge?
How are you going to shift it?

Re the 2nd point, do not underestimate how heavy these things are when full! Mine is totally smooth (I.e. No dimple grips) too so it's like trying to grab one of those atlas stones off the world strongest man, add a bit of moisture to the mix too....

22 kg of beer and 10 kg of glass (according to Amazon) not something you would want to lift or carry very far.

I think you can get carboy carriers but the last time I looked they weren't cheap, around 50 notes or so

GetErBrewed sell clear plastic (PET) FV's and carboys plus handles, bungs and venting caps definitely worth considering (and 5% off for members using the discount code in the sponsor forum)
