I have been toying with the idea of getting one of those camera's that mount to your dash or windscreen to record the happenings in front of you. Does anyone have any experience of these?

Whilst on the subject of driving, I have recently read of a new scam where the perpetrator flashes you to let you pull out but continues to drive into the side of your car claiming you pulled out on them. Be careful.

I was actually looking into this a few months ago, that are really pretty cheap, from what I remember they just plug into you cigarette lighter socket and you just hit the record button and off you go.

The one's I looked at had built in storage and could just plug straight into your PC via USB if you needed to get any footage off.

That's why it angers me when drivers are always flashing everybody in and out of busy roads. You might want to flash in a person crossing a 2 lane 40mph road but I might be unaware of it when travelling down the fast lane.

And if you're the person at the back of a queue of traffic there is no need to flash me in when you can just put your foot down and get out of my way.

I use Daily Roads Voyager on my Android phone. It records everything, but only saves 20 seconds if it detects an impact (or you press a button to save the video). It's free too.

Indeed, I was very late to driving (29 years old), but my instructor impressed this on me. To only let people out if you're already pretty much at a stop (or travelling very slowly), and only if it's safe to do so. So if someone is trying to get out of a junction on your left, don't let them out if they're trying to turn right and there's traffic coming the other way, but let someone out turning left if you're only trickling along anyway.

Most Russians have them now, I believe, to keep the insurance companies happy, and that's why we got such great vids of that meteorite recently. It may not be long before we start seeing insurance discounts if you have a camera (and claims refused if they show you did anything dodgy...). You definitely want something that keeps at least the last N seconds.

Chap I know on FB has one for when he cycles (on his helmet), several very alarming vids of motor vehicles cutting him up have been posted. Mind you I suspect he rides like a nutter.
