I've kegged my john bull IPA and did afew bottles. Anyone done this kit? I've also started off a woodfordes wherry. I'm trying to get my stock up for christmas. I have also seen somewhere about using 40g ekg pellets with the wherry. I've never used any hops before so how do I do this and when would they be added?
Cheers

if its your first time with the Wherry, why do you want to dry hop with EKG, you might ( like lots of folks ) like the kit as it is....Try it first and do your alterations if any on subsequent brews )
Whatever you can dry hop any beer from during fermentation right thro to the last vessel your conditioning your beer in. You can also add them direct to kegs and corny's

Yes, I like JB's IPA kits, I've often made them for some years. However the last one I did I experimented with and added a hop tea consisting of (Fuggles and Target 30g of each) and also 400g of DME, this got me a starting gravity of 1062 which I kicked off with a Nottingham yeast which had been recovered and pitched twice before. Its been going well since the 5th of Sept. Its still bubbling occasionally but I need to check the current SG, maybe tomorrow. I've been too busy with de-stalking Elderberry's which have just come good in the last few days here.

I've done 3 wherry kits so far and all been good. I've been brewing for afew years now with kits and wanting to go to the next stage of using hops to improve the standard kits

Me too. What would be a good kit to try the dry hop?

All kits can be dry hopped,as it is done after primary fermentation. It's a good idea to use 20g of your hop in a pre sterilised muslin bag, you can buy these from most suppliers, I sterilise it by boiling in some water with a couple of stainless steel nuts to weight the hops down.

If you don't weigh the hops down by some method, nuts, marbles etc they will just float on the surface of the beer.

As PD said try tasting the standard brew first you might like it, another trick with kits is to reduce the volume of water from say 40 pints to 37, that was you up the ABV slightly.

If you haven't tried it the St Peters Ruby red kit comes highly recommended. :thumb:
