Hi

Has anyone got any experience of the above water boiler?

Amazon have them for £87, their feedback seems good for homebrewing.

All comments appreciated

I have one but I only use it as a HLT - heats up very quickly and easy to dial in in terms of the steady temperature of water that you get at each of the dial settings. It does seem to boil quite vigorously but I have no experience of trying to sustain that for any length of time.

Thus far no reliability issues but one gripe is that the tap seems relatively high up such that you need to start tipping it whilst there is still a lot of liquid left in there.

Hi!
Will 30 litres by big enough? If you're boiling 24 or 25 litres, it'll be touch and go whether it stays in the boiler!
Like the Buffalo, the Burco is not meant to maintain a constant boil, but one member has reported success even with an interrupted boil.

I've got one. Will maintain a gentle rolling boil outside in cold weather, a vigorous one if it's a bit warmer out. 30L is big enough for 20L into the fermenting vessel after boil off and trub losses, even for 2hr boils. Had mine for a year with no reliability issues.

As has been said, the tap is quite high so you have to tip it a bit to get the last bit out, but that's fairly easy.

As above. I BIAB and works well enough for me to get 21l into the FV with some top up water. Boils well. Dial maintains steady 65c on about 3 and a half. Wrapped in few layers of insulated bubble wrap it generally only turns on once to maintain that mash temp.

Did you change the tap on it, what did you use?

Do you need to bypass the thermostat?

Have a look at this thread: https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/burco-30ltr-boiler-tea-urn.2841/

They all seem to be slightly different in terms of thermal cut-out. Mine, which came from Amazon about a year ago, boils without issue straight out the box - no modification needed. Others have found the thermal cutout is around 97C which isn't much good so requires some modification.

I didn't have any particular issues with the 30l volume as you can boil shorter volumes and top-up in the kettle as you go or into the FV after the boil.

I changed to a ball value. Needed to get some silicone washer things to and few bits and bobs it pretty simple. There's a bloke on YouTube, can't remember his name, who I basically followed. If you want more info let me know and I'll see if I can hunt out where I got the stuff from.
