Good to know. I think next time I bottle I shall do a couple in the bud bottles and see what happens, though I know that doesn't help the OP.I tried one once as I had a load of old bud bottles from my dad, it seemed to fit ok but didnt carb up?
I use lots of 'screw off' bottles/caps that I acquired mostly abroad. I believe the buds are much the same.
I have never tried to do a new cap but the originals just screw back on.
Some of them are a decade old but in the last year or two I had the odd one or two not seal. So now I check them all by inverting the bottle over the sink after screwing the cap back on. No failures since.
In fact, I can feel a bad one now as I screw it on. Not sure but it seems to tighten too soon and grate a bit.
I chuck any caps that are showing any signs of rust even on the outside.
Hope that helps.
How did you get on with the bud bottles? I have 20 over from Xmas with all the original caps - did you manage to get good carbonation? I seem to get a good seal on the bottle when i have done a test run with waterHi all, I'm a few bottles short for my next bottling session but I have some budwieser twist top bottles. I just capped one and obviously twisted it back off. Has anyone used these without any problems? Cheers in advance
