I’ve recently took delivery of the Brewzilla 3.1.1 and will be attempting my first ever all grain brew tomorrow. I‘ve done many of the calculations for the water volumes, but was wondering what boil off rates people are achieving for this system.

I’m in the process of doing a test run 90min boil for 28L of water so I can get an idea of the loss. Will update when it’s finished.

I have not got a brewzilla yet, watched a few you tube videos where folk have used brewzilla for 23lt batches.A few of them have started with 29ltrs for a 60 min boil.

Well the results are in...

I started with 28L and ended up with about 24L

Trying the immersion chiller now and is working really well. First time user and amazed at the heat transfer to the cold running water.

Received my brewzilla last week, haven't done a brew yet but I did a test run. Started with 18 litres, took 33 minutes to get to 68 °C, with lid and pump on.
Added 12 litres and put it up to 100°c. Pump on and lid on. It never hit 100°c only 99°c but had a nice boil at 45 minutes then I turned the 500 watt element off. Boiled for 60 minutes and then tested volume left. I was left with 25.66 litres, so with grain absorbtion what do you think I will be left with. I calibrated my brewzilla and it was pretty much spot on until I got to the top.

I've found that you need to set it slightly above 100c to get to a rolling boil. Depending on the ambient temperature and altitude (I'm in the Peaks), I set it to 104-105 and it boils at 101-102c. I have my boil-off rate set at 3.2 litres in Brewfather and it ends up there or thereabouts

I didn't know you could go above 100, it just displayed HH after 99??

My experience so far agrees with the rest. I keep my life simple and always kick off the mash with 25l water (this is the max I can get without the grains going down the centre tube). For a 23l batch I sparge with around 7l water then top up with another litre or so to get to 28l which gives me around 24l in the fermenter.

Take the lid off when you get to 96 degrees or so before the boil otherwise you will have a long and dirty cleanup as well as some lost beer.

As stated in other threads, I don't trust the temperature sensor on the brewzilla, so I use a simple bbq thermometer in the mash and in the boil as well as during the cooling stage. Sometimes the 2 sensors agree, sometimes they are out by 20 degrees. No problem if you know this in advance.

have fun

HH just keeps the heating element on all the time, always see 101>102 on the led display.

Yes keep the lid off.
I just turned mine on to test it again tried setting the temp but after HH it goes back to zero. 98-99-HH-00-01
Is this what they all do? How do you set it to 101>102?
