In a conversation earlier I suggested to someone that they brew their newly acquired coopers kit short , that is , use the one tin and half the specified water and no sugar or other additives . Being all full of myself and acting the expert I was then brought up short when Johnny Newcomer asks me "Wont that mean that you have all the flavouring meant for 25L in 12.5 , making it overpowering ?" to which my stunning comeback was...."Yes , well , you see , its not quite so simple as that ,...er....is that the time /Must dash!etc etc"

In other words , I couldnt give him an answer to that very astute question and had my inflated ego punctured and shot down  oh dear ! :( made a right **** of myself...again  ;)

Still , gotta laugh ! He had me bang to rights , and I still cant really answer the question to my own satisfaction .So....has anyone actually brewed a one can kit half length , with no additives or adjustments ? And what were the results ?

I would like to be able to give J . Newcomer a decent answer when I see him later on , for his own sake if not just to give me back my self confidence .

Hmm I wonder. I made a brewferm pils which from Memory you could brew to 12l adding nothing but water and yeast, or you could brew to 40pints adding yeast, extra sugar and more water.

That was a single can kit which I brewed to 40pints, I will do that kit again in the future and short brew it (i suspect it will be darker and have a fuller flavour)I would have thought if brewferm gave two options on how to brew in the instructions, without causing any issues, the same would apply to other kits? Could be wrong, but seems To make sense

I am drinking now a Geordie Scottish Export Ale which I brewed to just 20 pints, without extra sugar, using Nottingham yeast. Best brew I have made in a long time, a bit more bitter than usual, full-bodied, about 5% ABV.
