Cider. :)
Ah, but what if there's only mass-produced - where's Wally the Apple - sickly sweet stuff??? :-(
Then wine. Red - probably well-oaked Spanish. Or white, probably New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

soda and lime.

then I'd pretend to be a righteous abstainer.

life is too short to eat and drink **** from industrial giants. My last lager was a bangla, if it even is a lager. I dunno. I've have a bottle of cava earlier what would I know

These days like a proper beer snob I tend not to drink beer if p***water is the only option. Quite partial to a dark rum and coke/ginger beer or even a G&T on a hot day if all else fails! At a push I might accept something like Grolsch and I will still have a Cobra if I'm out for a curry if they dont have anything better in bottles.

This does remind me of the best lager I have had in recent times though which was on tap at a local restaurant, fermented with champagne yeast and hopped with cascade and nelson sauvin. You couldn't get any further from the mediocrity of a Fosters/Carling than this stuff it was superb!

I am not a lager drinker but the wife accidentally picked up a crate of curious brew craft lager last year....cant get enough of the stuff now...beautiful refreshing drink hopped with champagne hops etc etc (available in Majestic wines!!)

MegaCorp only continue to exist because they make stuff that people drink, lager types being the most successful. So stop being prigs MegaSwill may be a little lacking in flavour, hops and even body but it is INOFFENSIVE!!

If it was unpleasant they wouldn't be making 10's of millions of Litres of the stuff.

All the same, I'll have a Bitter thanks.

There is a time and a place for an ice cold omni-lager. Sometimes it just can't be beat :thumb:

You're right. In the summer, if you're having a picnic or a barbecue, we still love a crate of those cheap stubbies of 'bierre d' alsace' or whatever it's called. The ones that work out about 30p a bottle.

Under normal circumstances I'd maybe tolerate a Beck's, but would rather not drink than have Carling or Fosters. It tastes of nothing at all and just makes me **** more.!

Tonight being Friday I'll be meeting my old man by tradition at his local for a couple of coors shandies as I'll have the car. To be honest I do enjoy them but a pint never tastes better than at clocking off time on a Friday.

By contrast I've got a box of Stella in the house from Xmas I've had 1 out of on a whim and found it gross. Used to love stella.

My local is one of the otely brewery pubs so they have decent ale. Wetherspoons has a decent variety too. Failing that it's something from brains or a Guinness on a night out as too much lager gives me a bad head.

I've never been able to drink carling though, half a pint gives me a headache.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there and the secret to it's sucess - it's inoffensive. So appeal to the widest range of customer.

I don't like IPA's because there too bitter for me but I sure there's plenty of people who wouldn't like some of the Porters I make - like drinking a pint of liquid chocolate

I don't really drink lager anymore, although San Miguel always seems to be decent on tap. Carlsberg/Carling always tasted ****, even when I used to tolerate Fosters.

I can normally find a half decent ale to drink to avoid buying lager.

A nice whisky, definitely. Coke is strictly for the Rayburn.... :nono:

Never in a decent whisky of course (favourite is Glenmorangie Manager's Choice) ...

... and I would like to point out that I haven't drunk a Coke on its own for at least twenty years; but I have knocked back loads of dodgy whisky! :thumb:

Mate (a Grampian farmer) and I ran a competition on who could find the cheapest bottle of whisky. It had to be a full 70cl bottle, 40% ABV, distilled, blended and bottled in Scotland.

I won with a bottle I bought from a Lidl store in Spain for €1.50!

The label said all of the above but it tasted like diesel (even when mixed with coke) so we decided to stop the competition whilst we still had a liver each! :thumb: :thumb:

as im in scotland its got to be tennants if im out. my town doesnt have any craft pubs but a couple do stock a few different wheat beers which are pretty decent. any time im through in glasgow or edinburgh we head to a brew dog pub or the west brewary in glasgow and they are tremendous

and the sheeple by it in the 10's of millions of litres. My Brother in law has almost seen the light he's half bud - half ale at the moment.

Hmm.... Not sure that I'm really being a prig in turning my nose up at a beer that lacks flavour, hoppiness and body. What's the point of it?? :-?
A bit like cider - there are some decent products out there, but they don't tend to come in large plastic bottles at a ridiculously cheap price. I'd certainly avoid White Lightning or Dutto's diesel-lookalike whisky - and not feel I was being a snob :)
Yep the cheap lager isn't quite in this alcoholic-targeting territory. It's brewed deliberately to be very cheap therefore it just lacks quality, and I'd always choose to avoid it.
