Ok so I got desperate!

Found myself in Wilkos and saw a cider kit, thought to myself I will give it a go its only £13

Any one else had this and whats the verdict?

Can anyone also give me an idea of a good cheap cider kit for the future.

I hope this kit turns out drinkable for July summer sun. LMAO :thumb:

never tried this exact kit but the magnum and on the rocks kits get decent reviews, otherwise do a search for turbo cider, basically tesco/asda apple juice fermented.

I must admit after seeing the kit i thought this must be a damn sight easier that to fork out for this!!

its just apple concentrate after all

so next question is..... What cheapest way of doing a decent Turbo cider for budget cash??

thanks for your response

:)

Not done that one but if I was going to I'd do the 7% version. I've just done a John Bull Kit which looks very similar and did the strong version (32 pints) as most people said the 40 pint one is insipid.

Its still conditioning but as far as I'm concerned its very drinkable already.

I was going to go for 7% but i brewed it mainly for the Mrs so didnt want her too put off.

next time i might.

I actually think i would be tempted going for36pints which would be around 6% if you do the maths :)

When I did my first kit I got this and brewed it to 40 pints, it was like pee.
Colourless and flavour less, just tastes like a flat sugary water.

Get an on the rocks of you want a quality kit

If your looking for Proper value turbo cider!
____________
Ingredients:
4 Cartons of value 100% Apple Juice
1 Packet of bread yeast (or any kind of yeast you can get hold of).
____________
I have personally not tried it.
But that was the original recipe for turbo cider! :

Good Luck ,
Liam

apple concentrate, hopefully it'll be alright, give it some time. magnum kits are actually grape concentrate with apple flavouring, hence why they're awful!

How much can you expect to pay for apple juice then and how much do you need to make a decent cider?

I buy my apple juice for 56p in sainsburys.

But the better quality the juice... The better quality cider. :geek:

If your making it in 1 gallon batches. Buy 4 cartons of 1 litre juice.

Well working on the fact that:
1 Imperial gallon (a normal demijohn) = 4.5 Litre's
So 4 should be enough (leaving space for non-fermentables).

Heres the link to the apple juice I buy:

But personally I find plain TC is a little ruff, however this recipe provides a tasty twist.
I do recommend it:

Infact Im brewing a batch of it now. :thumb:

meh, better juice doesn't neccessarily equate to better cider, the juices arn't designed for cidermaking, which usually requires a balance of sweet and tart apples. citric acid, tannin and malic acid in balance will benefit it more imo. i still swear by morrison's value juice with 1tsp each/gallon, the cider it makes is everything you want in a good cider! plus i'd feel too guilty drinking an expensive one, hahah....

For a Toffee Apple Pear Cider; This is the recipe rob wrote: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=18997
It follows the basic principles of Turbo Cider.

I have never added 'tannin or malic acid' to my cider.
Because I cant buy them locally. :|
Rob Is an more experienced brewer and Im sure he can tell you how they help your cider.

I've got a TC on the go at the moment - basically the same idea but with a cup of very strong stewed black tea thrown in for good measure (adds tannin).

What I did was...

Get a decent sized mug, and brew a cuppa with 2 tea bags. Leave it to stew for now.
Boil 1/2 carton cheap apple juice with 250g(ish) of sugar, until all the sugar has dissolved.
Bung that in a sterilised demijohn
Add the remaining half carton of juice and another two full cartons to the demijohn.
By this time the tea should be brewed enough. Remove the tea bags and add the brew to the demijohn.
Add 1tsp of yeast (I used Youngs wine yeast, as that was all I had to hand), swirl the demi to mix it and add an airlock.
After 2-3 days any foaming should subside, so add another carton of juice (so that should be 4 now).

Mine's still bubbling away like a good 'un...

TC is best with 1 tsp of tannin, 1 tsp of malic acid and 1 tsp of pectolase per gallon. And if you can get it, culture up a yeast from a bottle of Westons Old Rosie. It does take a bit of patience but it is worth while. Finally you will need to mature for 2-6 months. With out maturation all cider will be insipid it is what happens after fermentation which gives cider its true taste. :thumb: :thumb:
