Brewery develops a good beer.
Beer lovers try it, enjoy it.
The beer sells well.
Brewery tries to increase production to keep up with sales.
Brewery bought out by Marston's or similar.
Shops and pubs now flooded with the beer, which sells.
Beer now tastes like sh!te.

I'm sure we can all think of several examples that have followed this path.

It’s called the Marston’s - Greene King effect.

Fullers still produce good beers (well, most of them are good), but they’ve just sold their brewery business, so I expect the Griffin Brewery to be flats within 5 years and the beer to be made in Milton Keynes or something.

Not be long before my stocks are up to sustainable levels. Meanwhile I had a bottle of Old Peculier and a bottle of Proper Job the other day. Do you guys consider those 'worthy'? The OP was alright. The PJ, if I had made it myself, would be considered a failure and gone down the plughole. Dreadful.

Yes as I don't make my own so have nothing to compare it to, it reminds me of the time hi-fi were the big thing my mate had a very expensive system and I had an decent but lower price set up I was impressed by the sound quality of his but not enough for me to sell miney and get a better one and mine still sounded amazing compared to low priced systems they sold in highstreet shops.

I would suggest going to a decent bottle shop rather than Tesco and looking out for something by Rochefort, Struisse, Rodenbach, Founders, Kernel, Cloudwater, Mikkeller, Evil Twin etc but I have a feeling that confirmation bias would lead to you tipping those down the sink as undrinkable swill also.

I presume that they are at the upper end of the price scale so no, they wouldn't have gone down the sink, having forked out in the first place. Like Chippy's hifi pal, you could spend more in the hunt for John Bonham's squeaky drum pedal, or live in ignorance at the wonders you're missing but save a load of cash. I can hear said drum pedal loud and clear but then I do have the best audio set up in the world, and like my beer it was all pretty much devised and made by myself. There's even more beer snobs around these days than there were hifi ones in the 70s...

I get feedback from my many friends, and sometimes from the head brewer at my local microbrewery. I recommend trying Oakham Green Devil, but it is a devil to find in supermarkets..........

There's nothing wrong with Proper Job, its a very popular beer down here. Mind you, being bottle conditioned, it does have to be poured proper.

I think proper job is by far the best supermarket IPA you can get others don't come close. Best bitters on the other hand the big breweries do a fairly well on. Nothings as good as home brew though.

Proper Job is a nice beer, but IMO Vocation’s Life & Death is much better, albeit pricier.

I'm sure I have tried that before but can't remember, BTW looking it up it seems Tesco do 2 x 4 x 330ml for £9

Apart from running out, which has just happened I will occasionally pick a bottle of something that "looks interesting" to try. For example, I've just picked up a couple of Brewdog's I've not tried before (5AM & Elvis).
