quote="oldjiver"]Hi Tazuk, The first picture seems to show a blanked off hole?? where my push tap is. Can you explain please. Secondly are you using a brass tap? I am trying to locate a 1/2" bsp plastic tap as there seems to still be a debate about using brass. Thanks.[/quote]

Exactly the same compression tank connector as I used.As I said I was a bit worried about using brass, and would have preferred plastic, but many people are using it, and wouldnt be recommending it if they were dead!!

Heat retention......
Checked (150deg) after 1/2 hour lost 2 deg. After 1 hour 4 deg.
So that's 65.5C and losing 2C after 1 hour (sorry, cannot do fahrenheit [or ounces, gallons etc]). Sounds good. What's the maximum amount of grain you can mash in that?

duh! I completely missed that he was using F. Yeah a drop of only 2C is good especially if thats before adding foam to the lid etc...

The 150 degrees was the giveaway! But saying it drops 4 degrees is very ambiguous.

I have only just stopped measuring in "rods" "perches" and "chains". If I go in a shop I ask for an "English" tape measure, i.e. INCHES. My wife asked if I could stop calling manure "muck", I said I have only just stopped calling it SH**

I usually just do 3kg pale + crystal/black malt, mashes. for 15ltr, as I have difficulty lifting more than that (disabled). I also have a 23ltr boiler. So I reckon max with my setup is 4kg, to make 20ltrs. As I bottle everything volume is not as crucial as a barrel or keg.
If I had a bigger boiler 5gk = 23ltr would be possible, I think. As I have just got it, and wont be brewing for about two months (moving house)
its hard to tell. (watch this space)
