Does anyone rack straight from a PFV to a bottling bucket for bottling.

Normally I would rack to a secondary FV first to give the yeast a chance to settle out but I want to use my spare FV on Friday.

just watch out for sucking up the crap from the bottom

Everytime. The concept of racking to secondary to improve clearing is counter-intuitive.

This.

Always have bottled straight from primary, always will. But, I do now move into the cold for a week to settle.

Definitely into a secondary for a week to let the yeast drop out then into bottling bucket on day of bottling. But if a secondry is not your thing then as long as you get it of the trub with out out disturbing it to much and into the bottling bucket then i can't see a problem. However from primary to bottle isn't a good idea you will end up with to much sediment.

Using a secondry means that most of the trub is removed first time meaning that when you transfer again then there is even less to disturb and transfere over. Also some yeasts are easier to use than others. Something like notty compacts really well so not much gets transfered but something like US-05 you only have to break wind and it gets disturbed and as for WLP0028 well it detects you approaching at 30 yards and goes into a cloud

ha haa...nicely put.

That is why using a secondary has its benifits (along with infection limitation and yeast harvesting   )

I just bottle straight from the primary, the beer will clear ok with a couple of weeks in the warm and at least a couple of weeks in the cold , varies from beer to beer :thumb:

To me it depends on how mucky the primary is after the yeast has had it's party.
A clean primary and I leave it.
Muck top and bottom I use a secondary.
Mucky airlock and it's definitely a bio suit combined with condom. :D

I usually rack to bottling bucket straight from primary. Have only used a secondary to lager. I now chill the primary right down to 2C for a few days prior to bottling which helps the sediment settle although I've never used yeasts such as US-05.
