The law around cycling and disability buggies is a bit of an arse really :)

IF you have a driving license then you can be banned (subject to the approval by the Secretary of State), however, once banned from driving a; car, motorcycle, bus, HGV, steam roller etc you can still ride a push bike or drive a disability buggy as they do not require you to have a license !!

In practice, if you're nicked for riding a push bike drunk then you will have failed the attitude test as the average copper really has better things to do :) If you then get banned from driving for being pissed on a bike then you REALLY failed the attitude test as that appears to be a hole lot of paperwork just to get someone banned.

I've had my collar felt while out on the bike (5 pints, no lunch, hick) and was allowed to continue, after a severe piss taking session, on grounds I promised to push it the rest of the way home, as I'd just fell off twice trying to get on it then it was reasonable I wasn't going to ride it home :D

It's an odd state of affairs if all this is correct. If you're not a driver, then you've perhaps got far less to lose by cycling p*ssed or recklessly than someone with a licence.

Maybe in truth, the court would just balance it with whatever other penalty they give.
