Had a phone call earlier today which meant me and my wife having to drive through London and Surrey back to Swindon and we were greated with this sight.

The bit with no snow was where the car WAS parked.

Thats where the front door latch is on the B pillar.

And thats why it happened. Road covered in ice and a silly censored.gif taking a corner far too fast. I think she had to be doing at least 30 to have pushed the car that far. Thankfully the RAF police attended so they took statments and details for us as we weren't there.

New car needed for Mrs Bobo

Thats awful mate :(

I guess you just have to be thankful that Mrs Bobo hadn't just got in it

jesus!

i cant really tell by the photos... but that looks like just a new door to me?... or did they take out the chassis and pillars in the process?

total damage I can see (timed served automotive engineer before joining the RAF) and before strip down.

Front Passenger Wing,
Front Passenger Door (obviously)
Passenger Door Card,
Passenger Door Internals (window mechanism, door lock, central locking stuff)
Rear passenger door is bent too (popped out at top by half an inch)
Passenger sill is badly dented.
B Pillar is bent where latch is.

Then there will be all the frame damage where the door has hit as it is bent.

As i've worked it out it will e more than the value of the car to repair so will be a writeoff. Which to be honest is what i'm hoping for as we were about to put it up for sale. Going to have no Value now its been damaged that badly. Haven't had a look to see if the chassis is bent yet as it was too cold to lie down.

dang. that's a shame... i picked up a door for my old '72 bug for £20 from a scrappy 6 years ago... and my first car a ford fiesta i got quite a few bits, lights, quarter glass etc and got change from a tenner.

but as you say, it reaches a point where it's just not financially viable. fingers crossed for you mate

Like you said, that car must have really been trapping around that corner, did you say it was a split **** driving :hmm:

Driving to work at 5.30am today taking it steady, what do you get?? some ****** in a van overtaking!!
KNOBS

Be thankfull no one was in it at the time looks to me like a new door £50/60 quid from a scrappy might get lucky and get one the same colour.

Yup, fully comp. Going through the insurance so all bits will be new. Can't find a door on any auto part sites such as euro car parts, german swedish and french ect so it looks like it will be a Renault part. Therefore I think it will be about £200 + (then +VAT) for the door, then its about £75 for the electric window mechanism, £80 for the door lock. £30 for the front wing. Possible new rear door, then there is the damage to the sill and B pillar. + labour, + paint. The market value of the car is about £1200 so me thinks its a write off.

ahh feck... i'm tryna remember the name of a website i used years ago....

it's basically a website that connects all scrap yards from the UK with punters... you post where you are and what you need... and scrap yards ring you up with prices... i used it to get a 1600cc twin-port engine for the dub... within 10 mins of posting i had a phonecall every ten mins for about 3 hours... got myself an engine for £100 !!!!

feck what's that damned site :wha:

I once filled my details in on one of those sites, phone was red hot for hours, wouldn't mind but I'd been on day shift and was trying to grab 10 mins on the sofa.
Turned phone off!!

Straighten the door with a sledgie, weld it shut & tape a black bin liner over the missing window. Bobs yer uncle, Fannys yer Aunt. You'll get a good 6 months out of it if not more.
Bet it'd be fun driving with the window blanked out. I'll give it a shot with SWO's motor.

Darn mate thats not a good thing to come back to. Also at least the snowdrops came out to sort it in your absence must be one of the few things they have done for a while as I thaugh that the RAF hospital their had been closed down and I cant remember of any other RAF places near their ........ Im an old bombhead  and yup I do remember the old song

My turn to go fecking mental...

i just came back to my car after parking it in a car park to find a really bad dent on the side of my drivers door... some *******'s put a dent on the pinch/body line that runs down the length of my car... just went to a body shop for a quote.... £400 to repair as the whole door will need a re-spray with no guarantee they can get the dent fully out... new door if i want it fully gone... £1500!!!!! that's the second door ding on my car in 6 months!

i'm sick of ignorant drivers.... ARGH!

CCTV in the area / car park if so see if you can get the coppers involved and use that as evidence more chance of getting your car fixed by the other driver as its classed as a drive off thus making it an offence.
