Blowing own trumpet, and why not

After a failure with my third brew ever I thought I’d go big with the 4th one. Why not all experience is good experience. Brew a Courage Imperial Stout BIAB and thanks to a fair bit of advice on second FVs and bottling queries have I now tried it. Only 2 months conditioning and so far it’s a winner.
Thanks everyone for the input when needed and it shows that everything is possible with a simple setup.
One of the main successes I think is managing a sparge through a BIAB process.

Hope my second attempt of a Belgian blond will be equally as good.

I think it's cognitive bias and you need to send anybody that posts in this thread some bottles of it and a small fee to cover judging charges. Three guineas should suffice.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with blowing your own trumpet Phil, nothing at all. End of the day, if the people you are brewing for (usually yourself, possibly also your family and friends.) like the beer you're producing, that's all that matters. Grats bud.

As to anything I am really chuffed with, too right, my Crivens strong ale. It's absolutely amazing beer, even if it does curl your toes at 7.8%. Even my super picky father in law liked it, and he ONLY likes traditional British beers. Even a hint of anything different (US hops, infusing with flavours like chocolate etc) and he won't drink it. He sank a bottle of Crivens with a smile on his face though, and words along the lines of "That's the stuff!". Good going for an accidental beer (it was supposed to be an ESB, but I overshot my efficiency).

were it somebody elses trumpet, in this day and age, you should probably seek consent before commencing to blow.

Are you also a fan of Terry Pratchett? I also brewed a Crivens! strong ale, mine was 9.5%, and IBU 60.

Congrats. on a good brew. I've been AG-ing for nearly 4 years now. My first few brews were ok but nothing special but I have to say since then my beers have been far superior to most commercial beers and even most of what local microbreweries are turfing out. Good recipes and a steady hand at the tiller is the key. And no need to skimp on ingredients to make a profit helps too.

Yup, no problem: Crivens. I was just trying to come up with something nice tasting, hence you've not heard of it. Think of the Endeavour I used as been similar to British Cascade effectively (but more lime, rather than grapefruit), and you'll understand where I was going with it. Worked too.

We sure are bud! We name most of our beers on a Terry Pratchett theme, hence Librarian's Wit (Belgian Witbier), Kelda's Hogswatch Porter etc... Afraid my Crivens isn't a Scotch ale though, but a British strong ale. I'm sure you will excuse this, as the Nac Mac Feegle of the books were after all living on the chalk having escaped those nasty fairies....



I aimed for 43 IBUs, so not quite as bitter either, but then I was aiming for an ESB originally.... lol

I normally don't use references to Terry Pratchett characters, but with the Scottish references, and the wee drop they might like, this was an opportunity too good to pass.

It's a good name for anything that has you saying "Blimey!" When you take a sip to be honest... lol I think your bitterness might be a bit high for a Scotch ale though bud looking at the style guide. lol

You should put that one up on the Completed and Brewed Recipes forum. I know it's here already but it's somewhat buried in a longer thread and people might not find it there. It might be a bit late for people to get it on for Christmas but perhaps it could be done for New Year's Eve.

Aye, I should put Librarian's Wit in there too, as I was blown away by that too! More so in a lot of ways, although it was a lot more work to make, not nearly as simple.
