I'm coming over all shiney, for the last few days I've been piecing together info from here and some wonderful answers to my other posts
Trying to come up with a AG system that suits me. Tonight I had finally decided after an impulse thermos cool box buy :hmm: to go with a cooler box mash tun and build a copper manifold and get a tap..

Then I browsed the shiney threads on here and changed my mind again

Now I find myself for some unknown reason looking for a thermopot that I can convert to a MT. I'm only planning 23 litre brews so I suppose I would need a 35 ish litre?

Anyway it seems the malt miller doesn't stock them anymore, and angel home brew want £25 postage :wah: and that German French place, well I have no idea how to go about contacting them.

I just want a simple system with shiney bits now, I've got my stock pot/boiler/hlt, I just need a mash tun and taps and hole cutter and false bottoms or manifolds or wire mesh! I'm dizzy!

Cheapest? Best? I don't know
Swmbo with her eyes on me wallet, making sure I don't let the moths out :electric:

But those thermopots are calling me... One would go nicely with my 50L stockpot boiler.. Oh man!

I understand your pain. I suffered last year....
Unfortunately I found no cure to the illness and finally my normal self slid away.
It was very painful but with the support of my family and a lot of self denials I came out the otherside, more or less in tact. and am the owner of a shiny system that is a joy to use....... Stainless is dangerous...it eats away at you until you succumb, there is no rest from its eternal cravings but having passed through the fires of hell ( wife ) and the torment, I have emerged more relaxed and can finally smile again.
Every time I enter my brewery...I smile......
Peace is obtainable, just don't fight it...go with the flow. Sell one of your kids if you need to, but get that shiny !

Of course it doesn't make beer any better than plastic but inner peace is everything.

Go Shiny young man and put your finger up to them all.........

I only do 23 litre brews and I have a 32.5l pot which is more than adequate. I believe the next size down is 25l, which I wasn't comfortable it would have been sufficient. IIRC, it was about £65-70 delivered.

I'm not trying to convince you to go the shiney route, honest  but you know it makes sense ;)

Just to tempt you, here's the Great Wall of Shiney! (recently delivered from Bergland)

My fingers slowly going up!!!
I've emailed bergland and asked for a price on a 33 litre thermo pot and a 33 litre stock pot :electric:

Go for a 50 litre stockpot (boiler) with a thermopot (mashtun) of that size...

I've already got a 50 litre boiler so considering I will only be doing 25 litre brews do I really need another 50 litre pot hlt? And a 50 litre mash tun thermo pot?

no the boiler can share the duties of the HLT. however is handier to have both....

But you may want to do 40L brews

Aarrrrrrggghhhhh!

It's like having little people on both my shoulders whispering "go bigger"

I don't think I'll be doing any more than 23 litre brews though, so would a 33litre mash tun and hlt suffice?

Ah sorry. Yeah, if you already have a 50 litre boiler than a 33 litre mash-tun is fine, and you can get away with a smaller HLT if you don't mind heating your strike water, mashing in, and then heating your sparge water during the mash.

I have a larger HLT, and heat all the water I'll need right at the beginning, which makes life a little easier (and this turns out to be around 45litres for a 25 litre brew).

The "wall of shiney" in the pic above are some pots for building some small systems for some friends who are interested. These will be two vessel systems (the 50 litre pots double as HLT and boiler), and the mash tuns (thermopots) are 33 litre. So much like what you are planning.

It would certainly suffice. I imagine the price difference between the 33 litre and 50 litre stock-pots is pretty small, and in that case, I'd go with the 50 litre HLT myself (so your system would be 50 litre HLT, 33 litre mashtun, 50 litre boiler).

THANKYOU,

Certainly something to think about

You only need a boiler and a mash tun.
50 litre boiler and it will hold 40 litres on a good boil safely. Your mash tun needs ( for 23 litre brews ) to be able to hold your grains which might be 78kgs for a strong beer and your mashing water. My latest strong beer Old tom ) had a mash volume of 26 litres, so yes a 30 litre thermopot will be adequate.

But......... 46 + litre brews are fun....

46 is just an approximation its double a normal brew of 23 litres which a lot of recipes work on.

Excuse my ignorance here:

But when you just have a boiler combined hlt along with a mash tun, do you sparge through the mash tun into a bucket or something and then tip or pump the wort back into the boiler?
