I did a hybrid extract brew last Sunday, using the "Heart of England" design a brew range.

The recipe I used is in the recipe section titled "A crack at Flowers Original".

The OG of the brew was 1.040, and today I checked it and it's gone down to 1.014 in 5days.

I left the hop tea bags in the FV whilst it fermented out (Styrian Goldings and Challenger).

I tried it today, and it was very very bitter

It didn't taste that bitter when I brewed it, and wonder if leaving the hop tea bags in for 5 days has made it this bitter?

Anyone know if the bitterness conditions out at all?

This is the first time I've done bitter, and hope it's not ruined.

you should not have left the hops in that long its ok to dry hop the keg etc if you have 1 with about 10 grams of hops. It might mellow a bit given time but its still going to be very bitter im afraid

Just give it time, Steeping hops in fermenting beer does not extract bitterness . . .You have to boil the hops for some time for that to happen.

The steep in the fermenting beer will extract flavour and aroma.

Fermenting beer always tastes pretty bitter to me . . .but once the yeast etc has dropped out and the beer clears, the bitterness fades considerably

are the hops you have in the fv been boiled before you put them in ?
The design a brew kits 'come' with a hop Teabag that you steep in hot water . . . then add the lot to the FV . . . the Extract in the kit is already hopped
