Brew day again and I really dont know where all the beer goes to
Decided to give Big Kenny a shot as I have read a number of its good posts, Have the wife and my lad helping so I shall have chance to overload with pics with luck going to give the new digi camera an airing for this so lets see how it goes, First thing first got go and assemble the brewery.
I shall update when the day is done.
Happy brewing folks .
Had the strike liqure pretty much up to temp when I noticed a dead slug in the water and a slug trail around the bottom of the boiler , Needless to say I threw that water out and gave the boiler a darn good clean serves me right for upending the boiler on the garage floor rather than putting it in its usual place off the floor on the brew trolly.
Mash is on well almost finished about 15 min to go and the sparge water is almost up to temp . Hopefully no more little incidents today.
Bugger boil stars up and ermmmm flame out damn out of gas quick to the only garage thats open on a sunday that happens to have gas in 35 mile round trip :wha:
Learned a few things today ..... check your brewery for slugs and make sure you have enough gas
On with the pics then..
Brewery set up
Start heating the strike water
Grain Bin
Uts for one of these
Grain Bill
Check the water ohh yuk a slugs been in it so out with the old and a wash out if you look carefully you can see the trails.
More water to heat
Ready the tun
Start adding the grain ( grist ) to the hot water ( liqure ). That is the wifes feet not mine.
Hit that temp
Put to bed for 90 min
After 90 min add 10 litres of hot water
Recirc a few times
First runnings into the boiler
Take gravity reading
Second batch of water in the tun
Brewery in full flow
Pre boil
Boil on and first hops in
Time for a pint it is really clear but thats condensation on the glass.
A sip of beer later this runs out 35 mile round trup for a full one
Almost at the boil again
15 min hops , protofloc ( leyland HB have no worflic at the moment ) and IC in
Back up to the boil
cold break forming after cooling and the aroma hops having been in forgot to photo that.
Get the FV filled
In with the yeasties half way through filling the fv
Nice cold break shot
Trub
Slightly over filled FV
Hit 1045 gravity pre yeasts I should have boiled for a little longer of used slightly less water but im still having a problem getting the water right after a number of brews with this set up , but im getting closer.
A few hickups during the day but its turned out good smelling and a great colour.
