Best value hops for tropical juicy ipa

Hi I am trying to cut down the cost of hoppage for juicy ipa beers. I like galaxy etc but they are getting on for £9 for 100g so by the time I have used 150g to 200g not getting a lot of change out of £15 to £20. Anybody got any ideas suggestions through what they have brewed or compilations of cheaper hops Ps I have got some zeus in the freezer but don't know what it is like. Open to suggestions

Zeus is columbus and one of the ones I'd suggest. I like it as a dry hop. It's got a sherbertyness to it. Galaxy I find like lavendar as a dry hop and I'm a bit unsure about it. I did have a parma violet beer once and I could imagine it in that. I wasn't a fan, or the Turkish Delight beer.

Good reasonable priced hops to combo up to get what you are looking for would be Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade, Ekuanot, Comet, Columbus, Simcoe. What you have to remember is that allot of these hops can have a "dank" character (like columbus) so you have to balance them with others. I like the Centennial/Columbus combo, and the Ekuanot/Simoce combos for example.Also try "Falconers Flight" which is a combo of lots of great hops and does give you exactly what you have described.

Also do consider buying in bigger volumes if you are planing on doing ahop forward beer. For example CML will do a 225g or a 450g pack of some very juicy hops as a lot less cost than if you ought them in 100g bags from the MM. So if like me a hop forward beer has 450g or more in it buying in bulk is a good thing.

Thanks Hoddy I use centennial, cascade and simcoe ( got 500g of them off one of the other forum members for £18) so they have worked out cheap. I have watched some of the hops shoot in price over the last year and that is why I have asked as producing juicy ipa's is getting rather expensive especially if its does not turn out right

Chinook is a cheap but under-rated hop that I'd add to the list

And Azacca is a good choice that's much cheaper than the likes of Citra/Mosaic

It has a sweet tropical fruit character without any dankness - I like it. Could be quite intense used on its own I think though.

I bought quite a lot not quite £9 - but they go well with amarillo .

Another for Falconers Flight...I've done some nice beers with it.

I’m a big fan of Falconers Flight but the last lot I bought were only about 60p cheaper than buying the equivalent weight (225g) of Citra or Simcoe.

Obviously it is suited to being used as a single hop because it’s a blend so the saving would be buying 225g of FF as opposed to 75g each of Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic for example.

My latest brew,just dry hopped is bittered with magnum and has whirlpool and dry hop of Amarillo. The sample jar is nice,gone from 1042 to 1008 so should be bottling the weekend.

Zeus is very similar to columbus, so bung it in the whirlpool and you should get some nice fruity flavours from it.

El Dorado is an interesting NEIPA hop when blended with other hops, watermelon and candy are common descriptions. I liked it with Idaho 7 in a super hoppy wheat. Bravo is also an underrated hop. This article is interesting, suggests a blend of 70% Calypso and 30% Bravo as a good sub for Citra, if that's true you could save a fair bit.

If you like Galaxy then you'll almost certainly like Vic Secret, which is significantly cheaper and more available, but a very similar hop.

Unfortunately people have cottoned on to how awesome Vic Secret is and it has ended up really expensive as a result.

I have found Ella and Bravo to be excellent for NEIPAs. Ekuanot is also a cracker, but another pretty expensive once.

I have been looking at falconer's flight as well. I haven't used them before. Seems to get good reviews. Vic secret is another but it's sold out anywhere I look
