Best commercial beer? Changes all the time these days - which can't be a bad thing. At the moment:
1. Oakham Citra
2. Ringwood Circadian
3. Williams Caesar Augustus
4. Hobgoblin Gold

Lager - Moosehead (or Miller if my offy is out of Moose)
IPA - Punk, Sierra Nevada Torpedo (expensive though)
Pale Ale - Radical Road by Stewarts (available in Sainsbury's)
Stout - Murphy's (best nitro Irish stout in a can)
Belgian - Kwak
Wheat - Franziskaner

Same over here, you have to go to specialist stores for good beer, both domestic and imports. Supermarket beer offerings are generally limited both in selection and quality, like most of their products, selected to be acceptable to the masses.

Love some of the US Farmhouse Ales, Longson, Stillwater, Boulevard, Jester King. Lots of good Imperial Stouts (Speedway, Hopping Frog Etc). Some of the IPAs can be a bit risky to purchase unless cold chain transportation can be guaranteed. It makes more sense to buy local IPAs that are fresher and cheaper.

I don't know if my store bought choices would even be familiar to anyone. Are there any good American craft-ish beers you all get in the UK?
There are a billion micro breweries here that have been successful at getting their beer into the grocery stores. I'll give mine anyway: La Fin Du Monde from a Montreal Brewery (99% sure it's in Montreal). And there's another in a suburb near Detroit called Final Absolution. It's a Belgian as is the La Fin Du Monde. Both are greaat.

I really like troi pistols from the same brewery as La Fin Du monde. I think it's from Quebec Devine beer but never seen it in the UK. I am really envious of the choice of beer you have over there.

I really like troi pistols from the same brewery as La Fin Du monde. I think it's from Quebec Devine beer but never seen it in the UK. I am really envious of the choice of beer you have over there.

Yes, it is from Unibroue, a Quebec brewer. Probably the one of the first Canadian craft brewers to get noticed internationally. McAuslan is another really good brewery from the Montreal area, not sure if their products are available abroad yet. Sadly, no longer independent - Sapporo bought them some years back, although they seem to have kept everything much the same. Hopefully that's how things play out with Fullers.

Yes, all the classics very easy to get hold of (Sierra Nevada & Anchor easy to get in supermarkets for example) Others available via bottleshops/online.

One of the nicest beers I've ever had was only made for a short time a few years back. Not sure who brewed it for them, was Tesco's Revisionist Saison. Edit: have done a quick google search turns out it was Marston's.
I also drink more than my fair share of Fullers London Porter at home and Brewdogs Jet Black Heart whenever i'm in one of their bars.

Beavertown Lupuloid is awesome, super hoppy, 6.7% but drinks like a session beer very dangerous :)
(pretty much anything Beaver Town actually...)

Fuller's London Pride or ESB, depending on how strong a beer I want. Followed closely by Wychwood Dryneck.

Fruity NEIPAs etc are nice every now and then, but just can't go wrong with London Pride and ESB as a regular, hence bought some Imperial yeasts Pub to have a go at brewing my own finally.

From what I can gather, your Tesco is like our Kroger supermarket chain. In any case, even the Kroger grocery store has a significant craft brew section of actual, local beer. The other two-thirds are filled with the usual BMC (Budweiser, Miller, Coors) product.
I brew about 30 gallons a year and all of those batches are either English old ale style, Tripels and Quads.
