I've been using Britewort for a while now, but I've noticed that quite a few brewers tend to use Protofloc tables. Does anyone know if there is a substantial difference in the two products, the only obvious difference is the price.

I'm not sure, and the fact that one cost almost twice as much as the other leads me to think there is a difference.

http://www.harrisfilters.com/britewort/ - Carrageenan is well established in the brewing industry as an important processing aid. Originally, unprocessed seaweed of the species Chondrus crispus (Irish Moss) was used to good effect. As interest in the food industry for high kappa isomer species such as Euchema cottonii increased so did availability and quality. Today most carrageenan used in brewing is this species. Its role as the most cost-effective method of wort clarification is undisputed. £2.46 fot 10

https://www.murphyandson.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Protofloc-Tablets-TDS-2018.pdf - The active ingredient in Protafloc is a polysaccharide called carrageenan which is derived from seaweed. Carrageenan in solution is negatively charged, owing to the sulphate groups along the polysaccharide backbone. It is these charged sites which interact with wort proteins. £2.40 for 15

erm................aunsure....

I only use Britewort and it does a good job. Protofloc does the same job and I wouldn't be surprised that the composition is very similar. Price wouldn't be a deciding factor for me.

^^^^ @ElvisIsBeer did a much better post... :p

Cool thanks for the responses. I use britewort, and yes 1/2 a tab does me OK for 20ltr batches. I noticed some cheeky Monkey was selling protofloc for just over £6 for 15 tabs .WTH!
