Was just playing with the idea of beetroot stout.

Bet you thought for a second, "Hmmm... wonder if a tomato stout would work?"... pffft

I'm sure your not the first and wont be the last to be dreaming up such abominations. Seriously though, how would you even get vegatables into a beer? Do they need some sort of preperation like boiling? My GH book say for herbs, flowers, fruit and spices, either add near the end of the boil or after about 4 days into fermentation. How to you wine perv's make vegatable wines?

It was a brave man/woman who took that first sip of brussel sprout IPA

I am SO going to do this, already made my labels:

Be interesting to hear how you get on. I've never done a veg juice wine.

I've got old WI recipes for all sorts of veg wine recipes. I've just never thought about it as I kinda think, why waste time on that when you could be doing something you know you like. Guess I should start getting more adventurous!!

I'd be very interested in your WI recipes - those gals know their stuff.

nes?

What? You mean you don't like Turnip IPA and Parsnip Pilsner? You haven't lived man. And - before I forget, Spud Stout has body like you never dreamed of in your worst nightmare.

If anything is going to put you off homebrewing for good is going to be sprout wine  (there's a reason why the 'sick' smiley looks like a brussel sprout )

But haven't you noticed how sprouts look a bit like hops?

Sprouts are loads cheaper. I was thinking of drying some out and giving them a try in my next APA.

Anyone considering beetroot wine, Aldi is doing 500g packs of cooked beetroot for 29p! And btw, I found out you can freeze them and they are ok when thawed.

I'm pretty sure I saw in CJJ Berry's 'First steps in winemaking' somewhere that he said the best thing for tomatoes was tomato juice, I looked but I can't find it so maybe it's the advancing years again!

The recipe I used required raw beetroot as it is the juice from cooking the beetroot that you use for the wine so cooked beetroot would not be of use - well not the for the recipes I have seen.
