Hi all,

Quick Question: How do you drink yours?

I'm looking to buy some beer glasses, other than my mis-matched collection of boring plain old pint glasses from Ikea and the "acquired" pint glasses from various day/night sessions where my inner Artful Dodger may have gotten the better of me.

I like the belgum blonde type glasses, but i have also been considering a serious investment in a nice tankard. Thought? :drink:

Depends on what type of drink, im a bit freaky/ocd about my beer glasses.
Straight for pilsner etc
My wife will testify to that,my "glass cupboard " is full of different styles.
Some of the German or wheat beer glasses online look good.

I have a load of your mainstream commercial beer glasses, most have a nice design, plus I have a few Belgian chalice type glasses

As mentioned it depends on what you're drinking.

I had a few (travelling various places the past few years has meant leaving some behind ) for example the Spiegelau IPA glass or a few beer festival glasses, either a pint, chalice, etc. I have a nice glass from BrewDog just now which caters for most beers. :drink:

I have a few glasses which I keep seperate from the main glassware.. don't want SWMBO to be drinking orange squash out of it or anything.. I also clean these by hand with hot water only and dry with a microfiber cloth.. this makes teh glass very clean and helps keep a good head.

I have a couple of glass tankards (I like the old style dimpled ones) and a couple of hobgoblin ones (one just like my avatar)

It is clearly important that you have the right glass for the right drink, and I like the idea of owning many different types of glasses. Can anyone recommend anywhere in particular that it would be worth looking to purchase? I've seen a set that looks reasonable on Amazon, the "Dartington Three Cheers for Beers" set, which is an assortment of three beer glasses at a reasonable price. I'm not sold though. I feel a bit like I'm looking for the Holy Grail

I read somewhere that lager is best served in a stemmed glass as this keeps it cooler for longer. And there have been numerous threads on here relating to poor carbonation or murky looking beers that have had the solution of a clean glass presented to them by a fellow brewer, which seems to have solved the problem.

Has anyone seen the Leffe glasses? I do enjoy drinking out of those!

There is a cool little bar/pub in Leeds (Chapel Allerton, North Bar) which hangs the locals tankards from the roof using name-labelled hooks. I quite like the idea of this in my house. Of course the missus doesn't know this..... yet  Does anyone else drink out of a tankard? I think it could take away the pleasure of looking through your beer before you drink it. After all the color is just as important as the smell and the taste

P.S. BreadMurderer I like the brewdog glass you have!

I've got a Dartington Crystal beer glass that my wife bought me for Christmas one year. It's very nice, though I'm worried it's a bit pricey for a bumbling idiot like me. Having said that, when it was delivered, the courier threw the box over our garden fence. Luckily it survived.

I tend to use the above for big ales and dark beers and it seems appropriate for that. Otherwise I've got a selection of normal pint glasses, two or three half glasses from various Brewery visits and a nice 3/4 pint glass from St Austell brewery. I've also got a pewter tankard, though I was put off drinking out of it by a relative!

If you're drinking bottled conditioned home brew, it's best to consider a glass that you can pour all of your beer into in one pour. I quickly found out that if you use something too small, the second pour is yeasty!

I've got "MY" glass in the house, same as having your own mug in work I guess. Thinking about it so does swmbo for her cider.

I've got a Hobgoblin tankard for beer which she got me for xmsd and a smaller 300ml Captain Morgan's for when I'm on the rum. Her go to is an old moot cider pint chalice for no reason other than she likes it.

I really want one of the old fashioned dimpled pint pots, don't see them in pubs anymore. Ale isn't the same out of a boring bog standard pint glass.

That's where your wrong me old china! Should you happen to venture into a London bespoke craft artisan hipster pub, then you will be served your pint of hand crafted, locally sourced micro brewery beverage in such a pint pot.

I don't like em and usually ask for my beer in a 'normal' pint glass

Might be an urban myth, but I heard a lot of town/city pubs got rid of them because of the damage they were doing to people when they got hit with them!

This time of year is good for building your glass collection though, all the supermarkets are getting their 'dads love these' one tin with brewery glass presentation boxes. I have a wide selection, but it has been purely decided upon by the size of SWMBO's handbag on the night....

Lol I can imagine. Still wouldn't feel right drinking a quadruple American ipa with 7kg of hops in out of one :p

That wouldn't surprise me actually, any pint glass with a handle usually weights a bit.

I'm pretty sure peroni glasses are the shape they are to make them as awkward as possible to fit in a handbag.

Or a jar...

I often nip in charity shops to see what beer glasses they have! So I have an eclectic selection from which to pick. But I could easily add a lot more!
