Having only brewed once in the end of May last year  due to several (health and family) reasons, decided it was time to get brewing again. Had a root around in the storage boxes in âThe Denâ and found enough bits and bobs to knock together a brew! Iâd already checked with a quick âphone call to Rob âMalt Millerâ that the bags of grain would be OK :thumb: the hops were recovered from the freezer to use up, put this lot into Beer Engine and this was the result⦠The Bungy Tin Brew
By 8.30am this morning the buffalo was on and water coming up to temperature, the grain weighed out and then the smaller amounts of chocolate/torrified mixed weighed and added, it was easy really, weigh what was left and thatâll do
Managed to find all the bits and get them all sorted and assembled OK, good old Heath Robinson job with the mash tun, plate push fits which allows for easy cleaning. First thing this morning result, found a pair of specs in the âbrew drawerâ Iâd been wondering where that pair had got to, been sort of looking for âem for months
Mash tun filled and temperature checked, all OK so far, leave well wrapped up with old quilted jacket for extra insulation ready to start sparging later. Cupboard of the last of the older stock, all these are between 8 months and a year old, plus another couple of boxes sealed up in storage :
Plenty to start filling though :thumb:
First runnings to go back into tun, just love that smell
Start of rolling boil, for anyone whoâs thinking about a Buffalo, yup, they boil OK, time to sit back and think, make sure everythings been done! Sort out hops and most important, donât lose bit of paper with all the notes/times on it :geek:
Time goes quick when youâre having fun, forgot to take some hop piccys, busy nattering with neighbour who popped round, he could smell it next door again! Spent grain was bagged and taken round to other neighbours for chickens, more eggs when they get back into full production, nice barter system we have, spent grain=eggs, bottle ale=eggs  Then its chill time â¦
Bazâs high class steam extraction plant, well not so much extraction as open the door and shove it out :geek:
Chilled down and into FV, another bit of high tec stuff, filtration plant :geek:
All that waste! Well not really, onto the rose bed that goes along with the used hops, can feed the roses :!:
OG was down on the expected 1042, I managed 1041, where did it all go wrong  Not going to lose any sleep over that my friends, Iâm sure it will be a decent pint :drink:
Mix up a packet of yeast with some of the wort after checking the temperature in the FV, pour it in and put the FV into its insulated box with the heater on and see whatâs happening by morning.
Washing up and tidying round put everything away done time for a well earned â¦â¦.. :
Thatâs a pint of Banksâs Original, brewed 22 April 2011 3.6% ABV and a lovely light refreshing pint, one of my favourite beers for knocking off an afternoon thirst :
All in all a really enjoyable day, I used to plan to the nâth degree :ugeek: but this was a more relaxed affair, make do with what Iâd got âin stockâ which is why it got called the Bungy Tin Brew  my barmy old âsense of Yumaâ :hmm:
