Hi All,

Delved into to the world of extract brewing on Saturday, thought it was about time I gave it ago after kit brewing for 6 or so months.

Made my own boiler and wort chiller using various guides on the net, a few test runs in the morning, only a few leaks to attend to and ready to go.

Purchased all the ingredients in a kit from brewuk, thought it would be easier for the first try.

Followed the instructions that came with the kit and no drama's to report. Defiantly more satisfying brewing this way, feel more involved than with the kit route, plus you cant beat the smell from the bubbling wort.

Few piccies of the big day -

Boiler with home made ventilation system.

The pet cat 'Pickle' looking like she was enjoying the smell as much as I did.

Precious wort chilling.

Its now stored in a heated water bath upstairs. I should have taken more note to other people mentioning that the yeast I used WYeast 3068 goes crazy.
Blew the top of my airlock off and started to resemble a volcano :) Only one way to learn I suppose.

Already thinking to my next brew, is it to be a lager or another wheat beer, so many choices :)

Looks good!

I like the ventilation system, but is that an extraction hood I spy? :D

nice 1 , if you want the next brew ready for xmas it needs to be a weizen or belgian wit really otherwise it may be a bit green , let us know how it tastes :thumb:

This was my second extract...really tasty beer. If u fancy another recipe from brewuk, the summer ale is awesome :thumb:

What is the purpose of the massive sci-fi like extraction set up...couldnt u just open a window :wha:

It is but the previous owners of the house when they installed it, didn't run it to the outside world. So it just recirculates the air through thin filters, bit pointless really.

Glad I did have the setup, don't think I would of received any brownie points from the SWMBO if the house and the drying washing smelt like a brewery.

Think it will be another wheat beer next time. I have always liked my Belgium brews, only recently found the German variety, had no idea they existed :(

Erdinger and Franziskaner are my current favourites, wouldn't mind trying to make a Hoegaarden clone, but think will have to wait till I progress to an AG setup for that.

Do eeeet!

I've just done my first ever brew, which was all-grain

The recipe is almost hoegaarden, not an exact clone, but pretty damn close, give it a go!
