Barreling query

Hi there
I am going to barrel up my newkie sweet today but thinking off putting 15/20 pints into bottles if I prime the barrel with the sugar then pour the brew into the bottles (batched primed ?) I will then only have a half full barrel (may get a small barrel soon ) will I need to co2 the barrel to help with carbonation ? Or leave it as it is ?

I would give be the barrel a squirt of co2 just to displace any oxygen that is in there. As you would have quite a large amount of headspace
