So my coopers ozzy lager is ok tasting and I was fairly pleased with it as my first effort.

My muntons stout tasted good in fv despite the bits that stuck to the side but when bottling I noticed a slight tang but thought nothing of it. I went to shed yesterday (been in there two weeks conditioning and they were primed with 2 x coopers carb drops) and none of the bottles were firm, I poured one out and there was no carbonation and it tasted vinegary so I assume its all to be poured away!

Currently in the FV i had John Bull IPA which again has a slight tang to it and there is now what appears to be the odd clump of mould on the top, is this my second wrecked brew?

I have been thoroughly sterilising my equipment and have no idea what has gone wrong, temp has been 22 throughout.

:hmm:

Can you get a picture of the of the gunk on the top of your current one?

Would help to identify what's happening maybe.

That's life...don't let it put you off, I lost a 23 liter brew a while back.
Just make extra sure that everything that you use is clean. I don't use any of these drops you can buy just good old sugar.

What sanitizer are you using? Sounds like you are picking up infection at some point in your brewing process, it happens to everyone at some point, ive switched to star san as it is no rinse, i had a few problems with sanitizers that required rinsing off afterwards, now i sanitize all my equiptment at the start of my brewday as normal with starsan and have a spray bottle of starsan on hand to use if i put my spoon down or something. Its very handy as its no rinse. Dont let it put you off mate!

What sort of FV do you have? If it's the sort with a tap at the bottom, did you strip the tap out and sanitise it?

As above, what are you using to clean and sterilise your kit?

Even for my sour brews when i leave the wort to the wild bacteria in the air i still sterilize like mad its just gotta be done you dont want your beer turning into vinegar

Thanks for the reponses,

I have been using a steriliser from the home brew shop - powder you have to rinse, I have been doing the tap thoroughly as well, I am of the conclusion I must not have rinsed it well enough but its annoying after all that time. I have the coopers FV with the collar, its sitting in my bath now soaking in fairly liquid and then im gonna rinse that out thoroughly soak it in steriliser and rinse again thoroughly, I will then give it another bash and fingers crossed.
