I don't think you can brew in a completely sealed container as the pressure would get too high. In practice, the lids on the fermenting buckets aren't fully sealed so the CO2 should get out somewhere.

I plan on fermenting in that for a week, then switching to a secondary fermenter, that does have an airlock, for a few weeks.

Is there any way to tell if CO2 isn't escaping? Would the lid fully pop off if enough pressure built up?
I'm pretty sure my pressure is getting out somehow but just worried that if it isn't it may be interfering with the fermentaion process.
