hi folks, Thistle are playing Gateshead in a pre season friendly in Durham in July, does anyone know and good pubs around Durham for a few pre or post match ales nr the train stn? cheers

Just to chip in with the old Billy Connelly joke that there are people in England who think that the team is called Partick Thistlenil...

Anyway, I haven't been to Durham for some years so these could well have changed since, but three good ones were The Colpitts, the Victoria and the Dun Cow. The Colpitts is quite handy for the station.

The Colpitts Hotel is a Sam Smiths pub not far from Durham station. Absolutely love it, it's like stepping back in time (in a good way!) :thumb:

The Olde Elm is not too far from there and is also a great pub

Market tavern in the square. nice cask Swan and three signets great sam smiths pub. Just around the corner i think its the half moon. Tv screen wherever you sit. Shakespear which is old sells good cask but is very grubby. Varsity. Good cask but again a bit grubby. All these within five minutes of each other. Bishops mill a spoons pub. the big jugs all above selled cask.
We went to Durham last November and liked it. enjoy
