Im pretty new to the forum, and was just wondering if there were many people west of the severn bridge on here? There dont seem to be much of a home brew following around where I am (that i know of) and was curious who from my welsh bretherin were into it?

Crosskeys - lol... Well... I don't know too many other people who brew either (none actually - but some I know have done in the past), but there are a few local home brew shops around

Crosskeys, originally from risca (not a far move, i know :) ) Is there any decent homebrew stores in cardiff?? Theres one in Blackwood, but thats probably an equal distance from me to Cardiff. Plus the train station is pretty much at the end of my street so prob easier to go to cardiff.

Also could have a few in the prince of Wales whilst waiting for the train home :thumb:

There is myself and Goatriech in Newport, a couple of bods just up the valleys as well.

Where do you guys shop? or do your valley mates go to blackwood too?

I use the 'Home Brew Crew' in Donald Street, Roath. It's a bit of a walk from the Prince of Wales ;) but I think Roath train station might be quite close. Google "Home Brew Crew Cardiff" and you will find them.

Just did a google search, and there appears to be one in Newport too - Beer & Winecraft, 24 Corporation Road, Newport, Gwent, NP19 0AR.

I'm in Port Talbot not seen many home brewers around my way. But there are a few stores about in Swansea and I hear there might be one in Bridgend too. So there must be others just hiding from me lol

Ah, that one in newport would prob be easier for me. Strange i never noticed it before, my mate used to work just down the road from there. Plus i used to go to TJ's all the time back in the day, so im pretty familiar with that area!

Have a look on the forum map (top left) there's quite a few brewers in south Wales not sure how many of them are active on the forum though

Hi from Cardiff :thumb: Last I heard the home brew shop in Donald street had closed down. I haven't been to check tho.

Last time I visited was November 2012. It closed earlier last year because a car crashed into the store front but opened again after that.

I'm from merthyr. There's a shop in Pontypridd, but I've done most of my shopping online as I can't get the shops in the week when they are open

The owner of the shop in Pontypridd is fab, ordered malic acid in just for me and sold it to me at cost. Also have had bits from there a few times and never paid full price, a good selection of kits too.

The shop in Cardiff "The Home Brew Crew" has sadly definitely shut :(

They had problems getting the insurance to pay out, could not restocck as they needed to and pulled the plug on the place at the end of last year :(

They were going to await the final decision from the insurance and then, maybe, look for other premises.

I've been using the Barry Hombrew Centre for my S30 cylinders.

Thanks for the info about the one in Newport, I'll have a look at them on Saturday, that's walking distance from me :)

Most of my AG stuff is bought on line, the site sponsors are very good and reasonably priced for grains and hops, I find The Homebrew Company suits me, mainly because they have a capped delivery charge, so order a 25kg sack of pale malt and a few kilos of stuff like crystal, torrified wheat, chocolate, dark etc and you don't run up a huge delivery bill. I only need to order every 6 months or so, so taking a day off for the delivery isn't a problem :D

Yep - Cardiff Home Brew Crew has definately sadly shut - went there today has turned into a different shop!

Went to Wilkinson's Colchester Avenue in Cardiff instead to get some grape concentrate. First time I've been and hope I don't have to go back. Also in Cardiff, Tesco Culverhouse Cross have a slightly larger range than Wilkinsons.

Thanks posters for the tips on the shops in Pontypridd and Barry - I'll be checking those guys out next time I need something.

I had a look at the home brew shop in Newport on Saturday morning, if it's open then it's doing a good job of hiding the fact :(

Middle of Saturday morning and all the shutters down and bolted shut, the Google Street View (TM) ;) photos show it with the shutters down as well. Pity really as it would have been very handy for me.

I was in the Rhondda (will be back soon). Just a note about the shop in Ponty, he is sometimes closed in the afternoons.

Lovely chap, quite knowledgable and will spend forever talking to you. It is the best smelling shop I've been in.
