Threads like this make me so happy that I got to go to school free of the worry of been legally physically abused or assaulted by teachers..... :UKflag:

I had a colleague called Sue once, who hated it when I introduced her as Sue the staff nurse.... :D. They should have just changed it to Sue, a cider.:gulp:

It's all a case of the liberal society - famed for its ... erm ... liberality? stifling free speech!

Getting hit by the eraser was bad enough the second punishment was trying to get your breath in the cloud of chalk dust that surrounded you when it hit. :laugh8:

John Littlewood, my English Teacher, had an uncannily accurate aim with the blackboard eraser ...

... but if he missed (or you ducked and avoided it) he used to get hold of that bit of hair just in front of your ear to lead you to where the eraser had landed, so that you could pick it up for him!

In Mr. Littlewoods' defence, English Language was one of only two GCE's I managed to Pass (the other being Maths) so I must at least have stayed awake during his lessons! clapa

A teacher at our school once got so enraged that he chucked a DESK at a pupil. That was amazing. Another one whacked a kid over the head with the sharp edge of a metre rule. That was amazing too. But the kid was a haemophiliac... we never saw that teacher again.

If I came home bawling that the teacher mishandled me ear, my mum would say I probably deserved it! And if I kept whining me dad would (when he came home at 1730) mishandle me other ear, to set things straight! And he was a builder... asad1

Threads like these are soooooo, good!
We have to ask people booking about dietary requirements regarding the designated allergens; Gluten, fish, shellfish etc. Some folk sadly do have serious problems that we need to be aware of,,,, But, some don't.

A friend with a big hotel asks diners. "Do you have any food allergies, real or imagined?"

I got verbally *itch slapped(!!) down when I said I wanted to do this,,,,aheadbutt

The Steve Hughes example of stepping round a hole in the ground brought back a great (but fatal) memory from the early 1970's.

On a Drilling Rig they occasionally have to change the drill-bit on the end of the Drill String, so they remove everything from the hole to do it.

On this particular rig the 25mm board that was placed over the hole when everything was removed, rested in a particular place. It sat there for days whilst drilling was in progress and one of the Rig Crew was responsible for placing it over the hole and removing it as required by the drilling schedule. The man worked next to where the 25mm board normally rested.

One day, they removed the drill string from the hole and the man responsible picked up the 25mm board from where it rested and placed it over the open hole.

Changing the drill-bit took more time than normal and the man responsible wasn't on the drill-floor when it was time to remove the 25mm board and re-commence drilling, so the Toolpusher (the man in charge) ordered one of the other lads to remove the board and put it back where it belonged when not in use.

Unfortunately, the lad was standing opposite where the 25mm board normally rested, so he walked up to the board, picked it up, held it in front of himself and walked forwards to where the board normally rested.

Unfortunately, the 25mm board was in front of his face so he didn't see the 24" diameter hole that he had just revealed ...

... and fell down it to his death! aheadbutt aheadbutt

There's a reason we have Health & Safety Legislation and it sure as hell isn't there to get comedians a laugh!

Happy Days? I think not ... aunsure....

... but moan over! :UKflag:

And that is a sad accident, absolutely. Every comedian worth his/her salt would acknowledge that.

And yet there's plenty of comedy to be found that include men stepping and falling into manholes. But comedy is dependant on the audience. Someone could describe a funny situation causing a lot of people to laugh, but not me. But I don't expect the whole world to stop turning because I feel offended.

I probably worded my comment badly. What I was trying to explain was that there is nothing laughable about Health and Safety Legislation as a subject.

I have laughed myself at some of the activities that have caused serious injury and even death. (Please check out The Darwin Awards https://darwinawards.com )

Many of the reports are excruciatingly funny, but they illustrate the stupidity and cupidity of mankind rather than denigrate the Health and Safety Legislation that is there to protect us from both ourselves and unscrupulous employers.

Exactly, it's about the RIGHTS of employees, the right to a safe work environment. Otherwise it would be nothing better than 2nd or 3rd world employment. Plenty of employers willing to save some easy pence by bypassing safety rules.
