Quickly following on from Tuesdays brew ( Black Sheep Ale ) I'm brewing again today.

Overnight mash put on last night and the HLT just switched on to heat the water for todays effort.

I'm doing a variant of a Mackeson Stout, with Lactose and Maltodextrin...a body building drink !

First time I've done a Stout in my shiny pots...hope the brew doesn't stain them.....

Oh and Tuesdays Black Sheep is still trying to jump out the fermenter...... :)

There is no stopping you, I guess you need to keep your new bar well stocked :thumb:

Enjoy

:nah: ......not brewed much while the hot spells been here...........

Do you not have a fermentation fridge? (I don't mean that to sound condescending)

yep...however its full of bottled beers at the moment as my top storage shelf was reaching 30C, so I moved them...

Laid back brew day...

Simple additions.Lactose .Malodextrin and a few Target hops.

I'm a skimmer... I like to remove all the floating scum from my brews..Is it necessary ? I don't know its just something I do.
Heres the scum as brew coming to the boil

and heres the brew after skimming with the few hops added.

scum removed

time for a coffee during the boil.. ( sorry for idiotic grin ! )

and into the fermenter....Black Gold...Texas Tea.

Have a great day :hat:

selling beans on toast...will make a fortune !

ended up with 23 litres at 1053 which will probably get me 5.4%abv. Not bad since I brewed for 20 litres.....

Yes where is the menu board.

Full English please Guv.

Any chance you could share your Black Sheep recipe? I had a look in the Brew day forum and couldn't see it... thanks!

Its a good job I fixed a blow off tube on the Black Sheep Ales the other day. Its still pushing yeast out the top.
All being collected in a jug at the side.

When the brews settled down I'll wash this, grow it on a little then split it into a few little sample jars for the fridge...free yeast.

I'm a skimmer as well. Don't think its essential as it will get sorted out with the irish moss. But my logic follows that I'd rather get rid while its on top than have it sink to the bottom when chilled & let the hops filter it out. I would skim a stock pot to get rid of impurities-so why not me beer?

Nowt wrong with trub. If you use a plate chiller that is what you end up with in you fv. Provides nutrients for the growing yeast. :thumb:

bugger !...... just found me protofloc tablet on the side.....
