I am knew to home brewing. I have done two batches of lager and bottled it, both went great. I did try a lager batch in a keg but forgot to seal with Vaseline so that went flat

However, for my next batch I want to do a IPA but I want to make sure I get the correct kit, I been looking at Coopers IPA as it says its American IPA.
The reason for this is I do not like some IPA which I assume is English IPA, itsa the one that tastes more like Ale than Lager (maybe Lager is the wrong word but you know, lively). What I am looking for is IPA that is from the same sort of line as Brewdogs IPA, Goose Island IPA etc, Am I right in assuming that is 'American IPA' and if so, do you recommend any brewing kits?

Appreciate any responses as this is my first ever post and be gentle.

Thanks! :drink:

Hi,
I recently did a John Bull IPA kit (£12.50 from Tesco Direct) and dry hopped with some Chinook hop pellets. I was well impressed with the result which resembled American IPA if a little on the dark side.

Yup, American IPA is the one you want. If you are looking at kits, the Youngs American IPA is popular, and for good reason.

Don't expect to get a hop kick out of a can it won't happen, kits with hop tea bags either one can or two can kits are fine or just buy your own hop pellets and dry hop a pale ale to taste. For an american IPA you need new world or American hops, ammarrillo, citra, cascade,Chinook, galaxy etc even falconers flight which is a blend of hops

Stay away from the new coopers IPA its an awful kit and doesn't lend kindly to pimping with hops

Hmmm that's disappointing because I'm just in the middle of doing that kit and chucked the hops in earlier today!

To the original question though, from the description given, I would absolutely recommend the Youngs American IPA kit.

My coopers turned out ok..dry hop it with 50g or more..I can confirm the Youngs AIPA is extremely good! A nice easy drinking beer but a bit dangerous at 6%+! Needs time to brew out though...mine took three weeks to hit fg. Also...an airlock is no good you need a blow off tube!

Cheers

Clint

thanks for all the replies guys, i will start with the youngs IPA and then when more confident I may start experimenting with hops.

I am also into anchor steam which is california common (i know that thanks to the link provided by terrym :thumb:)

I see festival do a kit for US steam beer so that could be another on the list
