Whilst debating over wether to try AG...

Is the difference really that big between AG and the kits? Having never tried an AG brew i wouldnt know! does it taste more like a shop or pub bought beer/lager?

I

Some of the kits available today are very, very good and provide great results which i'd be happy to drink.

However (imo) the difference is still like going from B&W T.V. to colour T.V.

Agree with Wez some of the two can its are very good when conditioned for a couple of months, but being a tight arse its the cost for me.
Two can kits are £20 in a HBshop and now I have the kit, I can brew 40 pints for under £10 including the cost of electric and water and a good pint too

The best thing about AG brewing for me is making up your own recipes, if your favourite tipple is highly hopped pale ales then you can brew them, if you like a dark intense 8% stout you can brew that - kits served me well as intruduction to brewing and the processes involved, it also taught me that the more effort you put in then the better the result :thumb:

As Wez said black and white TV is ok but would you go and buy one?

I've never done AG brewing myself but I can imagine its like a **** in a public toilet compared to a **** in your own cludgey
With soft toilet paper compared to the hard stuff that don`t absorb but just moves it around

Kits are great, find a kit you like and you're sorted. However.

To me a kit is like following a cooking recipe as it is written, fine but to always exactly to your taste. Alter that recipe to your taste and make it your own :thumb:

AG allows you to make what you want, not what others think is good, but what you know is great.
For my taste, my AG brews are better than any bought. Feels wrong typing that but it is true.

Haven't made a kit for years, think I might try one :wha: variety is the spice of life :D

I didn't experiment too much with kits, I did two and went to AG pretty quickly.
The difference is massive! Friends can't believe it's brewed at home. Equal to any real ale in served in a pub.

No, it's much better than that, after AG you will find that pub beers lack body and have been a bit skinny with the hops.

The difference is noticeable between 1 can & 2 can kits and the difference between kits and AG is another step up. I did both 1 & 2 can kits then went to AG I'm only on brew #6 but the quality of the product is amazing. My worst AG is still better than my best Kit. As others have said you can tailor your AG brews to meet your specific taste. It's like the difference between a Vesta Curry (kit beer) a visit to your favorite Indian Restaurant (brought beer) and cooking a curry at home (AG).

Cheers guys, this is all spurring me on lol.

I have bought a few kits to keep me going, and if i get my arse in gear it willl give me time to get the kit together to set up the AG brew.

kits are like a world cup tournament in Russia, AG like a world cup in England :D
That's a dangerous analogy :D
