Hi guys, I came across a brewing book today with what looked some cracking recipes in it (and a wide variety as well) the only problem for me was that it was ag, now all you ag brewers will say just change to ag but I just cannot justify the extra time, space required or equipment at this time.
So what I was wondering is if there is an extract - grain conversion tool/table anywhere, I'm guessing that the larger items on the grain bill are for the malt and the smaller amounts are for the colouring and flavour, I can steep these grains and use extract to replace the malt grains?
If so in what proportion please?

What is the recipe ? Use the speciality grains same as , hops a little more if boiling with less volume . Use dme to get the % you want as the speciality malts only give you colour and flavour . If light beer use light extract . Using a free recipe software will make this easy .

There were too many to record and I didn't buy the book (yet :D ) I've got beersmith, do you just type the ingredients in and adjust the amounts until you hit the right og? I don't really know how it works!

Some AG recipes cannot be converted to extract as you need the enzymes from the base malt to mash the other grains. Crystal malts can be steeped as the starch has been converted during malting.

Thanks rpt, I may just buy the 'brewing classic styles' extract book.

Brew in a bag (BIAB) might be the answer your looking for. The only extra equipment you really need is the bag as you should have the big stock pot, so there's no more extra space required. As for extra time, I've never done extract as i went straight from kits to AG/BIAB , so I don't know if you need extra time

As said, some recipies can't be converted but in many cases you can use cyrstal malt (as said) and about 3kg of DME or about 4kg of LME ...... hops remain the same.

Vague but gives you a rough idea.
