Some stuff going on T.watter too - https://twitter.com/Franklin

This looks very interesting  I love the Belgian beers...and only last week got hold of a couple of bottles of Duvel & Chimay to harvest the yeast..as I have all the malts & hops waiting...keep us posted about the brewday..good clear photos.

You say you made the candy sugar??? a quick run down on that would be very much appreciated.

All the best for the brew :thumb:

another great brewday - i`ve never tried any of these type of beers but will be doing so very soon as the candied stuff looks very interesting :thumb: What would be a good beer to try ( or a few types) ?

:drink:

I can't really help with beers recipes as I'm only experimenting, and my recipe is only very loosely following the Hopping & EBU's of a Duvel recipe.

:thumb: Thanks anyway - what would be a good belgian beer to buy from a shop? Something along the lines of what you are trying to replicate would be great to try :drink:

I've not tried a huge selection of Belgian beer, so I'm a bit blooming uesless!

My **************************/2009/10/17/a ... ppist-red/ turned out to be a cracker and was drinking well right from 2 weeks bottled to over 6 months.

Chimay, Duvel, Leffe, Hoegarden etc are the only Belgians I've really tried just supermarket shelf stuff.

Looking good....wish I had it.. :thumb:

You guys should try all the Trappist beers....Westmalle (think that's correct).. Jupiler..L'Abbaye des Rocs.. they go on & on.

Looks like you had a nice brew day! Simple grain bill and good hop choice, hope it turns out well.
What's your plan for fermenting this one? Are you ramping the temperature up to get attenuation?
I'll be interested to hear if you get the FG you're expecting, I'm hoping to do something similar but I'm worried it's asking a bit much of the yeast given the strength of Duvel and the OG of the brew.
Fingers crossed anyway!

The plan for fermenting is to keep it cool for a bit (On the Garage Floor is the coolest place in the house), then I'll bring it into the utility room (which is the second warmest place in the house).
I Mashed fairly high so I won't be expecting the yeast to chew through all the sugars down to the predicted FG.
:)

Just suppin on my first ever duvel - and its lovely, for a weighty 8.5% its clean, crisp and fruity and very delicious

My brew tasted pretty alcoholic, not much in the way of that Belgian Flavour though... I've put the FV in a warmer place, maybe I can get a bit of 'Pear Dops' out of it.

Now you know what all the fuss is about Rick :thumb: I love um...all the Belgian beers....have you tried any of the brown ones???? malty/ nutty/sweet just right...and their in the high 6% maybe 7% even 8%...

I've got a couple waiting but I want to try and harvest the yeast off them. :wha:

Hi,
I'm keen to know how long the candy sugar would keep, if at all, before you use it?
