So, finally got around to brewing my very first own recipe beer and it didn't turn out too bad. Here's what I tried:
Though not everything went to plan!
The Monster Mash which proved to be larger than my pan could hold! Had to reduce the amount of water in the mash and still ended up with some spillage.
The Sparge
The Boil (mmmm cake!)
The Additions
The Chiller doing its job
Final Result
The beer came out a more chocolatey colour than I thought it would, but that's not necesarilly a bad thing. The OG was lower than the planned 1.065 and ended up as 1.050 (a massive difference!). I didn't take into account all my losses and ended up with about 16.5l in the fermenter instead of the planned 19.
On the bright side, if I end up with 16.5l litres of drinkable chocolate stout at ~5.2% then I'll still be a happy bunny! :) :drink:
