Heya guys

So after not completely messing up my first AG brew i had to have another go!!!!!!

Recently i have been getting in to my wheat beers after a while of disliking them, then realizing that the few i had tried wernt to my liking.

So the recipe i basically just asked pittsy for help here viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45406

and then copied his recipe

Grain Bill

3Kg of pale wheat malt
1.7Kg of Pilsner malt
300g of crystal malt

Hops

Hallertauer Hersbrucker 20g @ 90 mins
Hallertauer Hersbrucker 15g @ 15 mins

Yeast

White labs wlp380

I tried to followed Pittys advice to start mashing it at low temp and then raise it up after a while, but i heated it too much so for the last 25 mins it was at 74 which im sure would have denatured all the enzymes at this point, whoops!!!!

i then boiled it for 90 mins and melted a rubber washer on my tap so ended up with wort dripping all over my stove:(

Sadly my wort chiller sprung a leak so i had to chuck it in to an FV hot and leave it over night to cool down in a bath of cold water.

So a few mistakes/things going wrong and i was surprised how dark it is with just a few hundred grams of crystal but it tastes amazing, cant wait for the yeats to do its thing

Cheers Badger

I was just about to order those exact ingredients :thumb:

I'm planning on doing this in a couple of weeks when my fermenter is free after my first all grain brewday last weekend.
Intrested to see how yours turns out.

Cheers

Looks like it could be a nice beer!

Only change I would personally make is if you're going for a "true to style" Weissbier it normally does not have any flavour / aroma hops, only bittering, and not tons of that either (+/- 18 IBUs of a noble German hop).

looks good mate! hope this one is better than the last :? im attempting my first wheat beer AG saturday. cant wait!

Yes it will be interesting to hear what the crystal malt does to the flavour? What fermentation temp are you using?

i would hardly call 10 to 15g of a 4% hop loads , ideally recipe is around 12 ibu and traditionally you would use 1/2 of your hop at start of boil , 1/4 at half way then last 1/4 at 15 mins but most leave out the half way addition , not sure where your reading your traditional recipes from .

Thanks guys,
