Thanks for that, the recipe isnt wrong, so I am just going to go with that.

I am just assuming that the EBC is wrong because I cant add roasted Flaked oats

Yes, makes sense, if your recipe has similar proportions to the one Aleman put up you won't go far wrong I'm sure. Let us know how it turns out.

Im confused with this EBC lark now...

Mine was 56.5 EBC according to Beersmith which is dark but not totally pitch black. The suggested style range for a Oatmeal Stout in Beersmith is 43.3 - 78.8 EBC

Not sure where I apparently went wrong but what I ended up tasted like stout, smelt like stout and looked like stout :)

UPDATE: Thinking back I am not 100% sure I got beersmith to have all the right EBC numbers for the grains etc. As there isn't always a good match and I am not sure how much I customised them etc...

Either way... If you following Alemans base recipe, either my variant or his original I can ensure you, you will end up with a cracking pint.

I have found with AG brewing, unless you do something really stupid you will make good beer :)

I took a picture of the final result last night :) such a lovely pint!! Only got about four left :(
