Hi guys,
Not posted a brew day here before so I thought it was about time to sort that!
I designed this recipe a few years back as I was trying to emulate a favourite ale of mine (Ossian by Inveralmond Brewery) and it turned out to be one of the best I have made yet. All my friends thought it was my best effort and that closest to a "professional" brew! Anyway, recipe below:
I aimed to mash at 66C for 90 minutes but it was nearer to 67C.
All in all, it was a very pleasant brewday - my new false bottom in my mash tun worked an absolute charm and I collected about 500ml short of the 21L, which I have realised is because the tap on my new boiler is slightly higher off the bottom of the bucket than in my old one, so I lose 3.5L to the boiler as opposed to the old 3L... Also, I was expecting and OG of 1.043 and got 1.045 so my efficiency is slightly up too.
Anyway, I took loads of pics as I know everyone enjoys them!
Grain bill and water treatments all weighed out ready:
Water in to preheat mashtun:
Satanic starting temperature:
Not the best picture, but pH was around 5:
All wrapped up for 90 minutes:
In homebrew tradition, a pint of my last AG to pass the mash time:
End temperature - nothing lost at all:
Lovely clear first runnings:
Spent grains:
Boil starting, and 1st hops in:
Boiling away nicely:
My brew assistant for the day - she did a great job, apart from putting mud into my just cleaned FV:
Second lot of hops, cooler and protafloc in:
Aroma hops in after cooled to 80C:
Loads of break material through the boiler walls:
Wort hitting the FV:
Loads of trub!:
Nice clear wort in the sample jar, OG of 1.045:
20L safely in the FV:
All tucked up in the fridge, set temp to 18C to hopefully hit 20C in the FV:
Looking forward to this one!
