Was very impressed with a pint of Adnams Southwold a while back. I have heard it said that Southwold is just a lower ABV Broadside. So ive taken Mr Wheelers Broadside recipe and left out the sugar and added a little late addition of Centennial. So with a bit of luck Sunday will be brew day.

you used acidified malt or lactic malt?

Neither (im not brewing till sunday :D)

Ive got some Acidulated Malt (i assume that would be the same as Acidified Malt) on order from Rob going to use that (if it arrives tomorrow that is  ).

Thought this was going to be postponed for a week but I have had a package from Rob at the Malt Miller arrive this morning so its Brew on for tomorrow :thumb:

Bugger...... Just realised I had got a P.H strip out to check mash P.H as ive not done that before and forgot. It still sits on the table in the Kitchen  . Will see what P.H is before I sparge (if I remember  ). Mash temp has risen to 67.3 :wha: .

Reached rolling boil at 12.00. Challenger smell great :thumb:

Not a happy bunny. This could be ruined as the pipe came off the chiller and put about 3lts of water straight from the garden hose into the wort    . Gravity is now a little low at 1.036 Just have to wait and see now. Yeast pitched so fingers crossed ay   .

Put this into a Corni this morning. Not the best result. The addition of extra water from the chiller leak has left it a little light in colour and thin in the mouth. Think I should have re boiled to drive off the extra un wanted liquer. Does not appear to have got infected so thats something I suppose

That's proper bad luck - it looked to be going so well! It'll probably make a reasonable session beer though?

That happened to a friend of mine, only his beer was totally ruined - it was overflowing by the time he came back to find it :(

After he recovered the chiller from where it landed after he launched it across the garden, I converted it for him, putting decent connections on that I use on the ones I make, and it's been serving him well since then

Would have been very supprised if it had, it was only tap water.

But it was tap water from the outside tap that had traveled down the garden hose Jim

I was a little more fortunate BY. I walked in just as it blew off and managed to pop it back on so only got about 3lts in.

That is exactly the method I use for all my brewing, or have you scavenged your cess with it.

  No Jim. I just didnt know if any water that had been sitting in the hose had got into the brew.
