Which IPA was this? i have got the Brew Master one in now which had 1kg BKE and 500g light DME which got to the same SG as you. I have called mine Grim Reaper :D
 
Its the " Better Brew " They are a new make on the market by Hambletonbard,my homebrew shop stocks it and swears by the stuff,check out Hambletonbard.com for full details of there brews,they quite unique.Its bubbling away like atrain here,doing great..looking forward to it.

I`ve used black treacle in darker beers and found it gave a lovely plum flavour - just go easy its strong tasting !! I am suppin a speckled hen clone with treacle added in the boil and its superb - I think that as treacle isn`t 100% fermentable that it leaves some residual sweetness that works well (correct me if i`m wrong about this)
Adds some colour and more flavour than straight sugar also - even though I brew AG I use forms of sugar in lots of my brews, sometimes to boost alcohol and sometimes for the style (belgian high ABV beers)
I make my own candi sugar for these brews which is easy just cook the sugar to the colour you want :D
