No, it causes oxidisation and the beer goes off quicker!
 
No, not watery... "off"...

You know when you pour yourself a beer on a Saturday afternoon and you put it down and the missus gets you to do some jobs round the house, cut the grass, change the bed linen, put up a shelf then you remember your beer...

...it makes it taste like that!!
 
They're not expensive, a few quid on ebay or a homebrew sight. Be sure to check the size because they're not universal, i have 3 FVs that have taps and both are different sizes.
