The Norwegian micro brewery Nøgne Ø has a tradition of inviting Norwegian home brewers to their annual Home brewers days! On the first day we brew a Nøgne Ø ale (this year Nøgne Ø Pale Ale) and the second day we drink it!
Each participant get a bucket of Nøgne Ø Pale Ale vort to go, and we are free to add ingredients, special yeast or other additives (most don't add anything ...).

Fantastic vid there! Great idea too on the part of the brewery, wish some over here would do that!

Not exactly ... ;) It refers to the isle itself:
The name is taken from the first sentence in one of Norways most famous poems, Terje Vigen by Henrik Ibsen:

Der bodde en underlig gråsprængt en
på den yderste nøgne ø;-
han gjorde visst intet menneske mén
hverken på land eller sjø;
dog stundom gnistred hans øjne stygt,-
helst mot uroligt vejr,-
og da mente folk, at han var forrykt,
og da var der få, som uden frygt
kom Terje Vigen nær.
Which in English is:
There lived a remarkably grizzled man
on the uttermost, barren isle
he never harmed, in the wide world's span,
a soul by deceit or by guile;
his eyes, though, sometimes would blaze and fret
most when a storm was nigh,-
and then people sensed he was troubled yet
and then there were few that felt no threat
with Terje Vigen by.

Henrik Ibsen lived in Grimstad (where the brewery Nøgne Ø resides) for several years working as a pharmacy intern. He is most known for writing the play "A Dolls House".

How much are the Nogne beers in Norway actually? You can get some of them here but they go for 6 euros or more per bottle in the shops and even more in the bars.

It is still fermenting. I will probably be bottling it this weekend. It is at 1020 now and smells marvellous!

Phew. No wonder there are always lots of Norwegian holidaymakers in the city I used to live in up North - Finland must seem cheap in comparison!
 
I don't suppose you lot sing snapsvisor like your - our - eastern neighbours do you? Its a bit foreign to the British character I'd say - you know - having set pieces that everyone performs together when they are blotto. The Brits prefer being impromptu, it gives expression to their liberal and individual values. Even "Nellie Dean" was normally sung solo.

No, that is more or less a Swedish tradition only, but I have participated (when in Sweden ...)

On a similar matter: At parties, my uncle is usually doing the whole Terje Vigen poem, 42 verses, (like the above 1st verse) by heart!

The beer? No, it has to ferment for a couple of weeks. I have bottled my 50+ bottles now, and only have 8 x 0,5 liter left... It is delicious!

Nude barmen would not be good for the soul, especially if they ask if anyone wants a cocktail.
