well 36 bottles of beer in 500ml beer bottles. i'm done in.
amid the madness the hose came off my bottling wand skooshing me in the face and leaving the remainder soaked into my right slipper. blister inside right thumb from screwing caps on and off. back is jiggered.
this is the evil dog IPA which was double hopped but i added extra godiva so it's a triple. for various reasons (shortfilling and adding more fermentables) it ended up at 9.4% which suits me just fine.
the advice given from a previous thread was useful though so thanks to all who contributed.
i can see a which pressure barrel should i choose post appearing as i'm just not doing that again for beer. 6 bottles of wine at once i can handle.

PBs are only really suitable for low carbed beers like ales and stouts. So if you prime with sugar there is a nominal limit of about 90g table sugar for 23litres fro 25litre PB. Using further increasing amounts of sugar means increasing amounts of foam rather than beer is dispensed, until sooner or later you hit the level at which the rubber band RV should vent the excess CO2 to protect the PB.
So if you are brewing 'gassy' beers like lagers, wheat beers and AIPAs they are best in bottle.

Wilko have got a 4 inch barrel cap one available online at moment 😉

Ordered one this morning, shame not to at that price
thanks. i looked at theirs before. saw reports of problems with the tap but they could mostly be fixed with vaseline.

cheers. not planning anything terribly gassy. got a stout and a red ale lined up.
Blisters from screwing tops tightly on to PET bottles was one reason I moved to glass bottles and crown caps
i hadn't given it a second thought until the second box of 24. sudocrem applied.

I always swap out taps for a particular one I prefer.
It's one that rotates on its axis so no matter what position it ends up when the threads are tightened, you can still rotate the tap to point downwards when serving time comes without loosening the tap.
interesting. does it go by a certain name? i do plan on picking a barrel up at the start of next month.

Ordered 2 of them yesterday - I mostly do ales though, well until next year anyway and have loads of bottles if I try something gassy.

I have stopped using drops though am onto primer now.

You were lucky to get 36 bottles unless you do the bigger batches than I do (5 US gallons).
I hate spilling beer.

It was you who put me onto it Cat thumb.

Good job I had them actually - bloody youngs pressure barrel was a nightmare today
The youngs tap when tight was at a 45 degree angle from perpendicular, wouldnt tighten to get it to 90 degrees as thread slipped, if i turned it anticlockwise to 90 degrees it leaked !!
Threads really poor, one of those were if you tighten too much thread slips.
Full barrel of beers primed and pressured up - had to gently tip onto its back, open tap to take pressure out, so disturbing sediment, then screw in one of the new taps, with ptfe fitted, and greased, then re pressure barrel - ypungs tap is now in the box of shame parts bin
My Courage Directors is now in recovery mode on a marble slab in a cold pantry

Here's the new tap
